About the role
The dining experience is an integral part of the Residents' daily routine. The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for ensuring a delicious, appealing and nutritious, yet safe, effective and efficient food service that enhances the quality of life of residents and comply with legislative requirements and published standards relating to catering in aged care facilities.
Key accountabilities
Perform general kitchen duties, including cleaning, food preparation, meal plating, table service, and maintaining high standards of food presentation.
Ensure the safe storage, preparation, and service of food in accordance with food safety, infection control, and organisational policies.
Prepare and deliver nutritious meals that cater to residents' individual dietary, cultural, religious, and medical requirements,
including special diets such as diabetic, gluten-free, coeliac, and high/low protein.
Ensure meals are served on time in a friendly, effective, and high-quality manner, while maintaining a flexible food service that provides residents with access to meals and refreshments after hours when required.
Work collaboratively with care staff and build positive relationships with residents and their families to support the effective delivery of meals and promote a high level of resident satisfaction.
Key Requirements
Minimum of 1 years’ experience working as a Kitchen Assistant, within an aged care environment.
Hold a Food Handling Certificate Level One (or be working towards obtaining one), have completed food safety training, possess knowledge of the dietary requirements of older people, and maintain a current National Police Check clearance.
Demonstrate strong organisational skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure, together with excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
Display a passion for delivering high-quality food services, with a commitment to quality management, continuous improvement, and meeting the nutritional needs of residents.
Knowledge of modified fluids and special diets.
Experience working with residents living with dementia or in memory support units.
