Detection Groupis the largest specialised water management business in Australasia with diverse businesses and clients spanning internationally. We provide a unified approach to pipeline asset management by providing a portfolio of innovative solutions, technologies and strategies covering the water and wastewater industries.

We are looking for a calm, confident, and articulate Group Financial Controller. You will act as the cornerstone of our financial operations. Reporting directly to the CEO you will provide active support and guidance to support the effective functioning of our finance team and wider business to work on a flexible part time basis from our Gold Coast Office based in Nerang close to public transport and the highway.

This role includes ensuring statutory accounting and tax obligations are met and an effective financial control environment is established and maintained, financial performance analysis is conducted and management reporting is prepared, investments are efficiently managed and financial systems deliver financial integrity and operate efficiently and effectively to achieve the Detection Group’s financial and business outcomes.

Responsibilities:

Oversee and manage the finance function across allgroup companies, related entities, andoperating sectors in Australia and Recent Zealand, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and strategies.

Ensure accurate and timely monthly managementreporting and cash management while providing critical financial insights to drive decision-making.

Develop and implement systems and processes to enhance productivity and performance, fostering continuous improvement within the finance department.

Lead the team through significant growth phases for new business areas, while maintaining high standards of excellence.

Developstabilitythroughout the finance function, establishingrobust controlsand procedures to mitigate risks and ensure compliance.





Manage and prepare statutory financial reporting, strategicfinancial planning, budgeting, and forecasting, collaborating closely with senior managementand shareholdersto achieve organisational objectives.

Utilise advancedXero, Excel and Power BI for financial analysis and reporting, leveraging technology to drive efficiency and accuracy.

Ensure the Group’s tax function, including tax policy and strategy, income tax preparation, GST, FBT, and payroll tax returns are managed to ensure effective systems and relationships are established with the tax authorities in Australia, New Zealand, and other jurisdictions.

Manage the preparation and lodgment of our various returns including income tax, FBT, payroll tax, BAS, and PAYG withholding reconciliations and installment statements to meet statutory requirements.

Systems, processes, and controls are established to efficiently and accurately meet tax compliance requirements.

Coordination of the external audit program

Willingness tobe hands-on as you provide leadership and mentorship toteam members across the group, fostering a high-performance culture.

Such other relevant duties as required from time to time which would generally fall within the skill and knowledge requirements for this position.

We Require:

To thrive in this role, you should possess the following qualifications, experiences, and skills:

Possession of an Accounting/Commerce Degree from a recognised tertiary institution and Certified Practicing Accountant or Chartered Accountant qualification.

10+ years of management experience, ideally within similar-sized businesses to theDetection Group, with a proven ability to handle the complexity of a Group FC role with multiple entities and divisions operating in Australia and New Zealand.

Knowledge and experience in businesses providing professional services tothewater sector is an advantage

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of collaborating with diverse teams.

Proven leadership skills with a track record of building, growing, and managing high-performing teams, ideally with experience in managing teams ofstaff.

Proficiency in Xero, Excel, and Power BI, with the ability to leverage technology for financial analysis and reporting.

Demonstrated practical and technical expertise in establishing a statutory reporting framework including a high level of knowledge of accounting standards and principles and preparation of statutory financial statements.

Demonstrated experience in establishing business processes affecting finance, developing robust procedures and controls for finance.

Demonstrated track record in process improvement within the finance area having a significant bottom-line impact.

Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and drive operational excellence.
