About the role
We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Advisor to join our leadership team on a full-time basis at our resort in Cairns, QLD. Reporting to the Area Director of Human Resources Queensland, you will be responsible for overseeing the human resources function and delivering HR initiatives that support our operational excellence and employee engagement. This is a pivotal role that bridges business objectives with people management, ensuring our organisation attracts, develops and retains top talent whilst maintaining compliance with employment legislation and industry best practices.
Key responsibilities
- In conjunction with the Area Director of Human Resources Queensland deliver comprehensive HR strategies and policies that align with the resort's business objectives and support a positive workplace culture
- Manage the full recruitment lifecycle, including job advertising, candidate screening, interviewing, selection and onboarding of new team members across all departments
- Oversee employee relations, including handling grievances, disciplinary matters and performance management in accordance with legal requirements and company policies
- Administer payroll, benefits and employee compensation programmes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant legislation
- Coordinate training and development programmes to support staff professional growth and career progression opportunities
- Maintain HR records, documentation and ensure compliance with workplace legislation, safety regulations and industry standards
- Foster engagement initiatives and lead activities that promote team morale, retention and a positive workplace environment
- Liaise with management across all departments to understand staffing needs and provide strategic HR advice on people-related matters
- Monitor and report on HR metrics, including turnover, recruitment timelines and training outcomes to inform continuous improvement
- Ensure health, safety and wellbeing initiatives are embedded within the organisation
What we’re looking for
- Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent professional HR experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a Human Resources management role, preferably within the hospitality or service industry
- Strong knowledge of Australian employment law, workplace relations legislation and compliance requirements
- Demonstrated experience in recruitment, onboarding and talent management
- Proven ability to manage employee relations, including conflict resolution and performance management
- Experience with HR information systems and payroll administration software
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organisation
- Solid attention to detail
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Professional HR certification (such as AHRI membership) is highly desirable
- Experience in hospitality, resort or tourism sectors would be advantageous
