About the Opportunity
Al Hikma College is seeking a dedicated, experienced and highly motivated K–6 teacher to join our Primary School team for an immediate start.
This is a part‑time block position with the potential for extension and progression to permanent employment for the right candidate. Applicants with demonstrated leadership experience may also be considered for a Primary Coordinator role, depending on their experience, capabilities and suitability.
About the Role
The successful applicant will:
- Confidently plan, prepare and develop high‑quality K–6 teaching and learning programs across all Key Learning Areas.
- Ensure programs are aligned with all current and newly released NSW K–6 syllabuses, curriculum requirements and implementation timelines.
- Deliver engaging, differentiated and evidence‑based learning experiences.
- Demonstrate highly effective classroom and behaviour‑management skills.
- Apply contemporary, evidence‑informed behaviour‑management practices, including positive reinforcement, specific praise, restorative approaches and proactive classroom routines.
- Establish transparent expectations and maintain a safe, respectful, supportive and well‑managed learning environment.
- Maintain high expectations for student learning, behaviour and personal development.
- Use assessment data to monitor student progress and inform teaching practice.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, school leaders, support staff and families.
- Contribute positively to the broader life, culture and strategic direction of the College.
- Support and uphold the Islamic ethos, values and expectations of Al Hikma College.
Applicants interested in the potential coordinator component should also demonstrate the capacity to:
- Provide effective instructional, curriculum and pastoral leadership across K–6.
- Lead and support the development, review and implementation of K–6 programs across all Key Learning Areas.
- Support teachers with programming, assessment, differentiation, classroom practice and behaviour management.
- Model and promote consistent, contemporary approaches to student behaviour, positive reinforcement and praise.
- Promote accountability, consistency and high professional standards.
- Lead initiatives that strengthen student achievement, teacher capacity and whole‑school improvement.
- Communicate confidently and professionally with students, staff and families.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold recognised primary teaching qualifications.
- Hold current NESA accreditation at Proficient Teacher level.
- Hold a current NSW Working with Children Check.
- Hold current First Aid training and certification.
- Have demonstrated teaching experience within a K–6 setting.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of all current and new NSW K–6 syllabuses.
- Be able to confidently prepare, plan and create compliant K–6 programs across all Key Learning Areas.
- Demonstrate highly effective classroom‑management and behaviour‑management skills.
- Be familiar with contemporary and improved practices relating to behaviour management, positive reinforcement and effective praise.
- Possess strong curriculum knowledge and the ability to differentiate learning to meet students’ diverse needs.
- Demonstrate excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
- Be committed to child safety and the wellbeing of all students.
- Be willing to actively support the Islamic identity, values and educational vision of the College.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in a leadership, coordination, mentoring or stage‑based role.
- Proven ability to lead curriculum development and improve teaching practice.
- Experience supporting staff performance and professional growth.
- Experience implementing whole‑school approaches to positive behaviour and student wellbeing.
- Knowledge of contemporary, evidence‑based approaches to literacy, numeracy, assessment and behaviour support.
- Experience working within an Islamic or faith‑based educational setting.
