The 18 Footers League stands at the absolute forefront of global sailing competition. We are globally renowned for spectacular, high-performance skiff racing on Sydney Harbour, including hosting the iconic JJ Giltinan Championship. We pride ourselves on delivering one of the best sailing shows in the world, combining elite athletic performance with an unmatched spectator and corporate experience.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Sailing Manager provides strategic leadership and expert oversight for our sailing operations. You will be the operational heartbeat of our racing, ensuring that every race day and regatta is delivered safely, professionally, and seamlessly.
This is a dynamic part time role structured around our racing calendar:
Key Responsibilities
Race Day Operations: Direct the strategic scheduling of the Race Calendar and lead the on-ground logistics for weekly races and major regattas.
Fleet & Safety Compliance: Ensure 100% safety compliance by managing race entries, boat registrations, crew lists, and auditing safety equipment. Provide advice and authority for fleet maintenance and support assets.
Committee Leadership: Schedule key officials (PRO, Measurer), guide the Protest Committee,
and coordinate Race Committee volunteers and safety boat drivers.
Corporate & VIP Experience: Organize race day bar and restaurant bookings for corporate sponsors, manage spectator ferry ticketing, and assist in executing the Corporate Sponsors Day.
Training Academy: Initiate and lead the Academy program, facilitating new crew try outs, recruitment, on-water coaching, and safety training.
Promotion & Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with the media team to guide sailing-related content and livestreams, and roster and brief race day volunteers.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will be a proactive problem-solver who thrives under pressure and adapts quickly to changing conditions. You are a strong communicator who is clear, authoritative, and welcoming when engaging with sailors, officials, and corporate VIPs.
Key Selection Criteria
Highly Regarded: Experience in a similar role.
Mandatory: Current First Aid & CPR Certification.
Mandatory: High-level computer literacy, specifically within Google Workspace.
Highly Regarded: Skiff racing experience.
Desirable: Marine License / Powerboat Handling.
