Most experienced SQL and Microsoft data professionals reach a point where they're ready for broader ownership.
They've built strong database fundamentals.
They've started working with Azure and modern cloud technologies.
Now they're looking for the opportunity to play a bigger role in the modern data landscape rather than simply administering databases.
That's exactly what this opportunity offers.
Most organisations recruiting this type of role narrow the market by insisting on experience across every Microsoft data technology on the wish list.
Our client is taking a different approach.
Rather than expecting someone who's already mastered every product, they're looking for an experienced data skilled with strong technical foundations, exposure to modern Microsoft cloud technologies and the ability to keep learning as the platform evolves.
If you've been looking for the opportunity to take the next step in your Microsoft data career, this role is likely to be very different from most.
After years of working around systems and processes that no longer support the scale of the organisation, the leadership team of this organisation has committed to rebuilding the core technology platform, simplifying workflows and creating a more connected operating model across the business.
You'll help establish the data foundations supporting the organisation's next generation of applications, automation, reporting and AI capability.
Why this role matters
The business is moving away from heavy vendor reliance and building stronger internal capability.
As new business platforms are introduced, data will become one of the organisation’s most valuable assets, underpinning reporting, automation, AI and day-to-day operations.
Working across Microsoft's rapidly evolving cloud data technologies, you'll help manage cloud-hosted databases, Microsoft Dataverse, Azure data services, Microsoft Fabric, integrations, replication and the information environment connecting the organisation's critical business systems.
Rather than inheriting a mature environment, you'll have the opportunity to shape how it develops from the beginning while expanding your own technical capability along the way.
The role
This is a genuinely hands‑on technical role.
You'll administer databases, optimise performance, support cloud data services, manage security, assist with deployments and data migration, and establish governance across the broader data environment.
Working closely with Solution Architects, Developers, Functional Consultants and Infrastructure Engineers, you'll ensure information flows efficiently between systems and supports the wider enterprise transformation.
Success will be measured by your ability to create a scalable, resilient and well‑governed data environment that enables everything else the business is trying to achieve.
The organisation
Our client is a long‑established Australian manufacturing and distribution organisation with operations across Australia and almost 900 employees.
Significant investment is being made across Dynamics 365, Azure, automation,
AI and modern cloud technologies to support the organisation's next phase of growth.
You'll work closely with senior technology leaders and have the opportunity to influence how the organisation's future data capability is designed, managed and continually improved.
About you
You may currently be a Data Platform Administrator, SQL Database Administrator, Database Engineer, Azure Data Engineer or another Microsoft data professional looking to broaden your career.
You'll bring strong database administration fundamentals together with experience across technologies such as SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure data services or Microsoft's broader cloud data platform.
Exposure to Microsoft Dataverse, Microsoft Fabric or Dynamics 365 data environments would certainly be advantageous, but it isn't essential.
The technology will continue to evolve, so we're far more interested in strong technical foundations, adaptability and the ability to learn than experience across every product in the environment today.
If you're practical, enjoy solving complex technical problems and naturally take ownership of the environments you support, you'll thrive in this role.
Working arrangements
This role is primarily office‑based in Western Sydney.
Flexibility is available when required, but this opportunity will suit someone who enjoys working closely with architects, engineers, developers and business stakeholders during a major technology transformation.
Please note: xceltium has been exclusively retained to manage this appointment. All direct and third‑party applications will be forwarded to the xceltium team as part of the recruitment process.
