Overland Mechanical Services is seeking an experienced Workshop Foreman/Head Technician to lead our automotive workshop operations in Rocklea, QLD. This is a full-time position where you will take charge of day-to-day workshop activities, manage our technical team, and ensure the highest standards of service. As Head Technician, you will be responsible for overseeing all mechanical work, maintaining quality control, and driving the operational excellence that Overland Mechanical is known for in the Japanese truck repair and maintenance.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise and manage workshop staff, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to ensure a productive and motivated team
- Oversee all mechanical repairs and maintenance work to guarantee quality standards and customer satisfaction
- Assist in allocating work to technicians, ensuring efficient use of resources and timely completion of jobs
- Perform complex diagnostic work and hands-on technical repairs on vehicles, demonstrating expertise in automotive mechanics
- Maintain workshop safety standards and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and health and safety regulations
- Conduct quality inspections and testing of completed work before customer handover
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance workshop efficiency
What we're looking for
- Minimum 10+ years' experience as a Diesel technician, Preferably Japanese trucks, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or foreman role
- Advanced knowledge of vehicle diagnostics, repair procedures, and automotive electrical and mechanical systems
- Current and valid automotive technician qualifications or trade certification relevant to heavy road vehicle repairs
- Proven leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop team members
- Robust communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to both staff and customers
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities
- Safety-first mindset with thorough knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure
- Experience with workshop management systems and computerised diagnostic equipment
- A current driver's licence and reliable transportation
