The Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) is seeking an experienced relationship and revenue leader to head its Foundation and corporate hospitality programs.
Based at Ballymore and reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Foundation & Hospitality is a senior, hands-on role responsible for growing philanthropic and hospitality revenue, managing significant stakeholder relationships and delivering exceptional engagement experiences for donors, clients and supporters of Queensland rugby.
The position combines strategic Foundation leadership and frontline major-gift fundraising with oversight of the Queensland Reds’ premium corporate hospitality program.
About the Queensland Rugby Union
The QRU governs rugby union in Queensland and is responsible for the Queensland Reds (men’s and women’s), Ballymore, community and regional rugby, player pathways, the Reds Academy and statewide game development.
The QRU Foundation secures philanthropic investment for initiatives beyond ordinary commercial funding, including the Reds Academy and player pathways, women’s and high-performance rugby, regional and Indigenous programs, elite coaching, community participation, rugby heritage and Ballymore infrastructure.
The Foundation has an established donor base and a demonstrated record of securing significant philanthropic support.
The QRU’s corporate hospitality program also generates important commercial revenue through premium matchday and event experiences.
About the role
The Head of Foundation & Hospitality will lead the strategy, revenue growth and delivery of both programs, with approximately 70% of the role focused on philanthropy and 30% on corporate hospitality.
You will personally manage relationships with existing and prospective major donors, develop compelling funding opportunities and coordinate the involvement of the QRU Chair, Board, CEO, executives, coaches, players and former players in donor and client engagement.
You will also lead the strategy, sales and delivery of the Queensland Reds’ corporate hospitality portfolio, supported by a part-time Foundation & Hospitality Coordinator.
Key responsibilities
Foundation and philanthropy
- Develop and deliver the QRU Foundation strategy, revenue budget and multi-year growth objectives.
- Personally manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects through identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, renewal and stewardship.
- Build relationships with individuals, families, family offices, private ancillary funds, trusts and foundations.
- Develop cases for support, tailored proposals, funding submissions, presentations, gift agreements and campaign materials.
- Identify and progress opportunities across major gifts, multi-year pledges, trusts and foundations, campaigns and bequests.
- Coordinate donor engagement involving QRU Board members, executives, coaches, players, former players and influential supporters.
- Deliver structured stewardship, recognition, impact reporting and donor engagement experiences.
- Support the QRU Foundation Committee
- Manage Foundation budgets, forecasts, gifts, pledges, restricted funds, compliance and reporting in conjunction with QRU Finance and the Australian Sports Foundation.
- Support a strong culture of philanthropy across the QRU and Queensland Reds.
Corporate hospitality
- Lead the strategy, commercial performance and day-to-day management of the Queensland Reds’ corporate hospitality program.
- Develop, package and sell corporate experiences.
- Manage relationships with hospitality customers, sponsors and corporate partners, identifying renewal, upgrade and multi-year opportunities.
- Oversee hospitality budgeting, forecasting, pricing, inventory, contracts, invoicing and revenue collection.
- Oversee the end-to-end delivery of premium matchday experiences with venues, caterers, ticketing, events, finance and rugby operations.
- Monitor sales performance, profitability, attendance, customer feedback and product utilization.
- Identify opportunities to connect hospitality relationships with partnerships, sponsorship and philanthropy while maintaining appropriate commercial boundaries.
About you
You will be a credible and commercially astute relationship manager who is comfortable managing high value relationships with donors, customers, Board Members, executives and prominent members of the Queensland Rugby and business communities.
You will bring:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent demonstrated professional experience.
- Experience in philanthropy, major gifts, fundraising, advancement, corporate hospitality, membership, business development.
- A record of managing major-donor or stakeholder portfolios and securing significant or multi-year commitments.
- Experience developing revenue strategies, budgets, forecasts, proposals and performance reports.
- Confidence working with Boards, senior executives and influential stakeholders and making direct requests for financial support.
- Experience managing a corporate hospitality or membership program, including product development, sales and delivery.
- A demonstrated ability to grow revenue through customer renewals, upgrades and relationship development.
- Robust written, verbal, presentation and proposal-development skills.
- High levels of discretion, emotional intelligence, organisation and commercial judgement.
- A collaborative, hands-on and self-directed working style.
- Experience in rugby union, professional sport, education, or community membership-based organisations would be advantageous.
