About the Employer We are supporting an automotive business (ABN 69 669 060 913) based in Acacia Ridge, Queensland, specialising in Japanese vehicle imports, compliance, mechanical repairs, servicing, and vehicle inspections.

With over 20 years of industry experience and a commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. The business is seeking a Motor Mechanic to support its growing operations and to maintain, test, diagnose and repair petrol engines and the mechanical components of lightweight motor vehicles, including transmissions, suspension, steering and braking systems.

Salary: $79,423 to $83,000 per annum plus superannuation. Location: Acacia Ridge, QLD. Employment Type: Full-time, ongoing. Ordinary Hours: 38 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

- Detect and diagnose mechanical and related electrical faults in petrol engines and vehicle components.
- Use automotive diagnostic scan tools, computers, multimeters, pressure gauges and other testing equipment to identify faults.
- Inspect and test petrol engines, transmissions, steering systems, suspension systems, brakes and related mechanical components.
- Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other mechanical components.
- Examine dismantled parts and components for wear, damage, defects and serviceability.




- Repair or replace worn, damaged and defective mechanical parts.
- Reassemble petrol engines and mechanical components following repairs.
- Test and adjust repaired mechanical components to confirm correct operation and performance.
- Perform scheduled maintenance services, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, fluid replacement and engine tune-ups.
- Diagnose and repair fuel, ignition, cooling and engine-management systems.
- Service and repair transmissions, steering, suspension and braking systems.
- Complete vehicle road tests and post-repair inspections.
- Confirm that repairs have been completed correctly and that vehicles operate safely.
- Follow manufacturer specifications, service manuals, technical bulletins and workshop procedures.
- Inspect vehicles for roadworthiness and identify repairs required to meet applicable roadworthiness standards.
- Issue roadworthiness or safety certificates where appropriately licensed or authorised.
- Respond to vehicle breakdown service calls where required.
- Accurately record diagnostic findings, repairs completed, parts used and further work recommended.
- Complete job cards, service records and workshop documentation.
- Safely operate vehicle hoists, mechanical tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop.
- Comply with workplace health and safety and environmental requirements.
- Assist apprentices or junior workshop employees where reasonably required.

Selection Criteria

Light-vehicle mechanical expertise Demonstrated experience maintaining and repairing petrol-powered passenger and light commercial vehicles.

2. Diagnostic skills Ability to detect and diagnose mechanical and related electrical faults using automotive diagnostic equipment.

3. Mechanical repair skills Experience repairing petrol engines, transmissions, brakes, steering and suspension systems.

4. Technical knowledge Ability to understand and follow manufacturer specifications, service manuals and technical repair information.

5. Problem-solving ability Ability to identify vehicle faults, determine suitable repair methods and resolve mechanical problems efficiently.

6. Quality workmanship Robust attention to detail and commitment to completing repairs to an appropriate trade and safety standard.

7. Organisation Ability to manage allocated workshop jobs, maintain accurate records and complete repairs within required timeframes.

8. Communication and teamwork Ability to communicate repair findings clearly and work effectively with workshop staff, management and service personnel.

9. Safety awareness Demonstrated understanding of workshop safety, safe equipment operation and environmentally responsible waste disposal.

Required Qualifications and Experience

- AQF Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, AQF Certificate IV, or an equivalent recognised automotive mechanical qualification.
- Relevant practical experience servicing and repairing petrol-powered lightweight motor vehicles.
- At least three years of relevant experience
- Experience using automotive diagnostic scan tools and testing equipment.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing petrol engines and associated mechanical systems.
- Current driver licence.
- Ability to work full-time in Brisbane.
