The City of Canterbury Bankstown is one of the largest councils in NSW with one of the most culturally, socially and economically diverse communities. We deliver 28 key services, including childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres, to more than 385,000 residents.

The role

Lead and inspire a high-performing library team to deliver creative, community-focused services, shaping programs and experiences that meet the evolving needs of our diverse community.

Position locations – Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre & Earlwood Library and Knowledge Centre

Duties will include but not be limited to

- Lead, coach, and support a high-performing library team, including recruitment, professional development, and performance management.
- Oversee daily branch operations, lending services, and staff rostering to ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service.
- Build strong relationships with customers and stakeholders while fostering a welcoming and inclusive, and customer-focused library environment.
- Drive continuous improvement by implementing innovative library services and responding to emerging industry trends and community needs.
- Manage customer services, library programs, spaces, collections, budgets, and action plans to deliver high-quality resources and services to the community.
- Coordinate collection development, new stock, and branch resources to ensure collections remain relevant, accessible, and aligned with community needs.

You will have

- Tertiary qualification in Library and Information Science allowing professional membership of ALIA, or other relevant tertiary qualifications and experience appropriate to this position.




- A valid Working with Children Check.
- Current Class C Drivers Licence.
- Extensive knowledge of public library operations in a cross-cultural customer service environment, with the ability to develop and deliver high-quality library and information services.
- Demonstrated people management and supervisory experience in a public library or similar customer service setting, with a proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing, customer-focused team.
- Proven high level communication and interpersonal skills, including report writing, procedure development, problem solving, conflict resolution, and effective complaint management.
- Experience in marketing and promoting library services and programs.
- Experience in monitoring financial resources and budgets.
- Experience in contributing, developing and implementing strategic and operational plans.
- Understanding of current issues and trends in the library industry.
- Knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) principles, Privacy and Personal Information Act.
- Experience in coaching, supporting and developing the knowledge and skills of team members.

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $97,327 (Grade G, Step1) + 12% super.Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
