Help set the standard every home is framed against
At Steelcraft Group, precise, effective engineering is a big part of how we earn a builder's trust, and it is the part this role owns. We are an Australian family-owned manufacturer on a mission to become the most trusted name in house framing and we are looking for a motivated, talented RPEQ Structural Engineer to help us get there. This is a role for an engineer who takes genuine pride in their craft, cares about the customer experience, and is driven to design smarter, more efficient buildings, not just to certify them.
About Steelcraft
We are an Australian family-owned manufacturer trusted by many of the country's leading residential builders. Through Steelcraft Framing we make superior steel wall frames and roof trusses, and through Steelcraft Built we install them. Working from our Larapinta facility and designing in Vertex BD, we have built our reputation on quality, professionalism and the certainty we give our customers.
The opportunity
This is a pivotal engineering role as Steelcraft grows. You will own the structural engineering behind our frames and trusses: reviewing and marking up preliminary designs, optimising them for material and labour efficiency, certifying them before manufacture, and continually developing our products and engineering standards. Your work will shape the quality, efficiency and reliability our customers experience on every project, and shorten the path from quote to production. You will be well supported, with our long-standing consulting engineers available for leave cover and additional support.
A different kind of engineering role
If your background is in a consulting engineering firm, this role offers something genuinely different. Rather than handing over a design and moving on, you stay with the product: you see it manufactured in our own factory and installed on real homes, and you get the feedback loop to keep making it better.
- See your designs come to life, from mark-up to manufacture to installed frame.
- Shape a product and its engineering standards over the long term, not just project by project.
- Work hand in hand with our production and construction teams, and learn what truly builds well.
- Be measured on the quality, efficiency and reliability of what we build, and the difference you make for our customers.
- Enjoy the stability and camaraderie of an established, growing manufacturer, with the variety of many builders and projects.
What you'll do
- Prepare and review preliminary structural design markups for light gauge steel frames, trusses and floor systems.
- Provide RPEQ Form 15 compliance certification of frame and truss designs prior to manufacture.
- Design and check cold-formed steel framing to AS/NZS 4600, AS/NZS 1170, AS 4055 and the NASH Standard.
- Optimise designs for material and labour efficiency, finding smarter, leaner solutions that never compromise safety or compliance.
- Provide occasional Form 12 aspect inspections, certifying on-site variations against the approved design.
- Give technical guidance to our design and detailing team to keep designs compliant, buildable and efficient.
- Develop our products, standard details and engineering documentation to make every home we frame better.
- Help drive improvements to how we design, certify and build, raising quality and efficiency over time.
What you'll bring
- Current RPEQ registration in the structural area of practice, able to issue Form 15 certificates (essential).
- A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Hands-on experience designing light gauge / cold-formed steel framing for residential construction.
- Strong working knowledge of the NCC, AS/NZS 4600, AS/NZS 1170, AS 4055 and the NASH Standard.
- An optimiser's mindset: you engineer the most efficient compliant solution rather than adding unnecessary steel.
- A practical, detail-focused approach, excellent communication, and a genuine drive to improve our products and the way things are done.
Our values, and what we look for
The Steelcraft Way runs on six values. We hire people who already live them:
- Accountability – you own the integrity of every design you certify.
- Commitment – you deliver consistently, even under deadline pressure.
- Exceptional Service – you make designers, builders and certifiers happy to work with you.
- Collaboration – you work shoulder to shoulder with our design, production and construction teams.
- Quality – you hold a high standard for safe, accurate, efficient and buildable design.
- Trust – you earn confidence through integrity, professional judgement and reliable results.
A valued role, and a win-win partnership
We are keen on long-term, win-win relationships. This is a genuinely valued, pivotal role, and as Steelcraft grows, you grow with it, in scope, capability and reward.
- A valued, pivotal role with real ownership of, and influence over, how we engineer and build.
- An attractive salary package plus super that reflects the value you bring to the business.
- A genuine win‑win: as the business grows, so do your responsibilities, your capability and your reward.
- Structured remuneration reviews as you and the business grow.
- Real impact: your engineering stands behind every home we frame.
- A supportive, quality-driven team that lets you focus on doing great engineering.
- A secure, permanent role with a growing, family-owned Australian manufacturer, plus ongoing professional development and RPEQ CPD support.
Be careful - Don’t provide your bank or credit card details when applying for jobs. Don't transfer any money or complete suspicious online surveys. If you see something suspicious, report this job ad.
