Senior Payroll Officer – Managed Payroll
Xemplo, part of the EPG Group, is continuing to evolve its managed payroll services through better technology, stronger client partnerships and a commitment to payroll excellence.
As a Senior Payroll Officer within our Managed Payroll team, you will take ownership of a portfolio of complex Australian payroll clients and deliver accurate, compliant and reliable payroll services.
Our clients may be based in Australia or overseas. You will therefore need not only robust Australian payroll expertise, but also the ability to clearly explain local payroll legislation, modern awards, statutory obligations and payroll outcomes to stakeholders who may have limited knowledge of the Australian payroll environment.
This is an opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys solving complex payroll issues, building trusted client relationships and improving how payroll services are delivered through technology.
What You’ll Do
You will:
- Manage end-to-end Australian payroll services across a portfolio of locally and internationally based clients, ensuring payrolls are delivered accurately, compliantly and on time.
- Process weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls, including terminations, redundancies, bonuses, commissions, back payments, adjustments, superannuation and banking files.
- Act as a senior payroll subject matter expert, interpreting Australian payroll legislation, modern awards and employment conditions and translating them into practical guidance for clients.
- Clearly explain Australian payroll requirements and outcomes to overseas‑based stakeholders who may not be familiar with the local payroll and regulatory environment.
- Build trusted client relationships by managing expectations,
resolving complex payroll matters and delivering responsive, reliable and commercially practical advice.
- Complete payroll reconciliations, exception reviews, payroll tax, Single Touch Payroll, year‑end activities and other statutory reporting and compliance requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve controls, reduce manual processing and increase the effective use of Xemplo across managed payroll clients.
- Work with implementation, product and technology teams to resolve system issues, improve service delivery and provide client feedback that supports future product development.
You will also contribute to payroll procedures, process documentation, internal capability development and the coaching of less experienced team members.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means payrolls are consistently accurate, compliant and delivered on time. Clients trust the advice they receive, complex payroll matters are explained clearly, and risks or issues are identified before they become problems.
You will also help improve the way payroll services are delivered by strengthening processes, reducing unnecessary manual work and helping clients gain greater value from Xemplo’s payroll and workforce technology.
What You’ll Bring
The ideal candidate will have:
- At least five years of end‑to‑end Australian payroll experience within a payroll bureau, outsourced payroll, managed services or complex corporate payroll environment.
- Extensive knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements, including PAYG withholding, superannuation, Single Touch Payroll and state‑based payroll tax.
- Sound understanding of the Fair Work system, National Employment Standards and modern awards.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex payroll portfolios, competing deadlines and client relationships.
- Strong payroll reconciliation, investigation and problem‑solving skills.
- The ability to interpret complex payroll requirements and explain them clearly to clients and stakeholders with varying levels of Australian payroll knowledge.
- Strong systems capability and confidence using payroll, HRIS and workforce management platforms.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to client service, continuous improvement, technology adoption and knowledge sharing.
Why Join Xemplo?
At Xemplo, we combine payroll expertise, workforce technology and exceptional client service to help organisations manage their people more effectively.
You will join a collaborative and supportive team that values payroll excellence, accountability and practical innovation. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of Xemplo’s managed payroll services and integrated workforce technology platform.
- flexible working environment
- competitive remuneration
- ongoing professional development
- exposure to complex and varied payroll environments
If you are an experienced Australian payroll professional who enjoys complex payroll, client ownership and improving how payroll services are delivered, we would love to hear from you.
Please note that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
