As an Aboriginal Liaison Officer, you’ll play a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners throughout their time in custody and their transition back into the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting culturally appropriate interventions and wellbeing programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners.
- Facilitating connections with Elders, community organisations and culturally significant programs.
- Advocating for prisoners' cultural, welfare and reintegration needs.
- Developing strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Providing guidance on cultural practices and supporting culturally safe service delivery.
- Investigating and reporting incidents while promoting respect, inclusion and fairness across the facility.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience working in a welfare, community services, justice, human services or similar environment.
- Demonstrated experience supporting or advocating for people with complex needs.
- Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures,
communities and contemporary issues.
- The ability to remain calm, resilient and professional in challenging environments.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and positive relationships.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to working as part of a supportive team.
