Electrical Engineer – Classic Car Conversions
Electrogusto has been converting classic cars and motorcycles to electric since 2020, right here in Sydney. Every build is a bespoke project. We create elegant, safe, cutting edge conversions for our clients. Over the past six years we've built deep expertise in electric motors, battery packs and other key components, and we've developed our own range of battery boxes and contactor boxes. We're a small, close-knit team of classic car enthusiasts who are constantly evolving and sourcing better components and partnerships.We are building a reputation as being one of the leading classic conversion shops in Australia.
We’re looking for an Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical side of our builds, working closely with our mechanical engineers and fabricators.
About the role
You’ll be part of a team of 5, working hands-on across every stage of our conversions — from planning and component selection through to wiring, testing and final installation. You’ll help decide the right motor and battery pack for each vehicle, and where every component fits within it working closely with our Mechanical engineers.
Key responsibilities
- Planning and system-level electrical design for each vehicle, including component choice and integration
- Wiring up vehiclehigh voltagebattery packs and battery boxes, including cells, BMS, fuses and bus bars
- Wiring uphigh voltage EV susbsytems such ascontactor boxes, chargers, charge ports, motor controllers, DC/DC units, electric throttles, gear selectors and cooling systems
- Rewiring 12V systems in the vehicle where necessary
- Programming and wiring gauges, motor controllers,VCUs,and PDUs
- High voltage cabling routing and connection
- Testing all components for safety and performance
- Working with independent engineers on certification and registration
- Liaising directly with clients on their builds
- Staying across current technologies and components for the business
- Have a voice in shaping the future direction of our company
About you
- At least 3 years' experience in an electrical engineering role
- Australian resident with a current driver's licence
- A collaborative approach to problem-solving, and enjoys working as part of a small team
- Positive, passionate attitude with strong communication skills — you’ll often be client-facing
- Excellent attention to detail, with safety and quality front of mind
- A genuine passion for classic cars
