Digital Nomads HQ is hiring a Front End Developer to own SEO implementation.
You will take technical SEO recommendations and turn them into live, tested code across our client portfolio. Schema, Core Web Vitals, redirect logic, template work and migrations.
You are also the person who takes written content live. The SEO and content team produces it, you build it into the client's CMS, correctly formatted, internally linked and optimised. That runs at volume and across a lot of different platforms, some nicer to work in than others.
Alongside all of that you will build and maintain client sites, so a solid share of the role is current build rather than remediation.
The position sits between the SEO team and the web team. You will be in planning sessions scoping what is feasible before work is committed, then doing that work yourself. On enterprise accounts where the client runs their own development team, you will write the specification and follow it through to deployment.
The portfolio spans local market leaders through to enterprise and international brands. You will work alongside the SEO specialists and the web team daily, and on larger accounts you will be in front of the client.
What you'll be doing
Technical SEO implementation: Take the recommendations from the SEO team and ship them. Schema and structured data, canonicals, meta handling, hreflang, redirect mapping, robots and sitemap logic, internal linking at a template level.
Content publishing: The SEO and content team writes it, you take it live. Heading structure, internal linking, image optimisation and alt text, meta fields, URL structure and schema. You are the last check before anything publishes, and if the formatting is wrong the content does not perform no matter how good the writing was.
Core Web Vitals and performance: Own LCP, CLS and INP across the client portfolio. Diagnose what is actually causing the problem, then fix it properly rather than installing a plugin and hoping.
Site migrations: Plan and execute migrations without losing traffic. Redirect mapping, pre-launch QA, post-launch monitoring. This is the highest-risk work we do and you will own it.
Front end build: Build and maintain client sites and templates. Clean, semantic, accessible markup that will not need rescuing later.
Campaign landing pages: Build fast, conversion-focused pages for paid media campaigns, to deadline.
Tracking implementation: GTM containers, GA4 event and conversion tracking, dataLayer work. If the tracking is wrong, every report we send is wrong.
Scoping and pushback: Sit in on SEO planning and tell us what is feasible, what will take three days instead of three hours, and what will break something else. A developer who ships every ticket without question is less useful than one who says no and explains why.
Working with client development teams: Some of our enterprise clients have their own developers. You will write the specification, hand it over, and follow it through to deployment.
AI: Real working proficiency with large language models and AI tooling in your development workflow, and to support the proprietary developments we are building in-house.
Hard skills and experience
- Minimum 3 years building and maintaining production websites, agency or in-house.
- Strong HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Semantic markup is a habit, not something you do when an audit asks for it.
- WordPress at real depth: custom theme development, PHP, ACF and block development. You can work confidently in a codebase you did not write.
- Comfortable in a CMS you have never used before. WordPress is our most common, but the portfolio runs across several platforms and you should be able to pick up an unfamiliar one and publish in it correctly the same day.
- Demonstrated Core Web Vitals work. You can open DevTools and tell us why LCP is 4.2 seconds and what you would do about it.
- Structured data and schema implementation beyond plugin defaults.
- Git and a proper deployment workflow. Staging, review, then production.
- GTM and GA4 implementation, including dataLayer.
- Working fluency in Screaming Frog, Search Console, Lighthouse and PageSpeed Insights.
- At least one site migration you have taken through to launch. If it went badly and you know exactly why, we would rather hear that than a clean story.
Useful but not required: Shopify, Webflow or headless builds, WCAG accessibility work, ecommerce, hosting and CDN configuration, Node and modern build tooling.
How you think
Understanding the why: You want the reasoning behind the ticket, not just the specification. Developers who understand why canonicals matter write better canonicals.
Risk awareness:
You know which changes are reversible and which are not, and you treat a redirect map with the seriousness it deserves.
Precision: An inconsistent trailing slash costs a client rankings. You are the person who catches it before deployment, not the one who finds it in next month's audit.
Care at volume: Some of this work is repetitive. Publishing the fortieth article of the month with the same attention as the first is a skill, and it is one we notice.
Bias to shipping: Live and good beats perfect and sitting in a branch. You get things out, then improve them.
Curiosity: Search changes constantly. You read, you test, and you keep up with what Google is actually doing rather than what a blog said in 2021.
Ownership: When a deployment breaks something, you are already rolling it back before anyone tells you.
How you work with people
Translation: You can explain a technical constraint to an SEO specialist and an SEO requirement to a client's developer, and both walk away understanding it.
Pushing back well: If you disagree with the specification, you say so early and bring the alternative. You do not ship something you know is wrong and stay quiet about it.
Reliability: When you say Thursday, it is Thursday. Or you tell us on Tuesday that it will not be.
Generosity: You share the thinking, not just the output. People get better around you because you explain the why, not just the what.
