Ungooroo Aboriginal Corporation is a 100% Aboriginal-owned, community-controlled organisation committed to creating opportunities that strengthen Aboriginal communities across the Hunter Region.

As our Barranggirra program continues to grow, we're seeking an enthusiastic and relationship-focused Stakeholder Engagement Officer/Mentor to work with Aboriginal apprentices, trainees, employers and industry partners across Newcastle and the Hunter.

This is far more than a mentoring role. You'll become a trusted support person for learners, build strong relationships with employers and stakeholders, and help create positive employment outcomes that make a lasting impact.

This position is 4 days per week (Monday to Thursday, 8.30am – 5.00pm). This is an Aboriginal Identified Position and is exempt under Section 21 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

About the Role

You'll work closely with apprentices, trainees, employers, Training NSW and community partners to ensure Aboriginal learners receive the support they need to complete their training and transition into meaningful employment.

Your responsibilities will include:

Building and maintaining strong relationships with employers, industry partners and key stakeholders.

Promoting the Barranggirra Initiative through community engagement, networking and events.

Providing one-on-one mentoring and practical support to Aboriginal apprentices and trainees.

Visiting workplaces and training providers to strengthen relationships and resolve issues early.

Developing individual Mentor Plans and Exit Plans tailored to each learner.

Assisting learners to access additional support services where required.





Maintaining regular contact with participants throughout their training journey.

Supporting learners who exit training to transition into employment or alternative pathways.

Preparing visitation reports and maintaining accurate program records.

Working collaboratively with Training NSW and other agencies to achieve successful outcomes.

Complying with Ungooroo policies, procedures and workplace health and safety requirements.

About You

You'll be someone who enjoys connecting with people and building relationships. You're organised, approachable and passionate about helping Aboriginal people achieve their employment goals.

You'll bring:

A genuine commitment to supporting Aboriginal apprentices and trainees.

Excellent relationship building and stakeholder engagement skills.

Strong communication, problem solving and organisational abilities.

The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.

Honesty, integrity and a positive, person-centred approach.

Confidence using computers and maintaining accurate records.

Current NSW Driver Licence.

Trade, construction or apprenticeship background.

Understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, particularly in education and employment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work effectively within an Aboriginal community controlled organisation.

Ability to work respectfully in a culturally diverse environment.

Current Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain).

National Criminal History Check (or ability to obtain).

Highly Desirable

Experience working within an Aboriginal organisation.
