About The Switch
At The Switch, we're redefining accommodation — creating spaces that are inclusive, dynamic, and community-led for the next generation of students, creatives, and young professionals. Our Sydney portfolio comprises two assets: 18 Doncaster Avenue, Kensington (250 beds) and 23 Lachlan Avenue, Macquarie Park (491 beds, opening October 2026) — 741 beds total.
The Role
We're looking for an experienced Maintenance Officer to take hands-on ownership of the maintenance function across The Switch's growing Sydney portfolio. Based at Macquarie Park, you'll be on the ground across both assets — carrying out routine and reactive maintenance, running safety checks, and keeping every building compliant and in top working order.
This is a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves role with real ownership. You'll work day-to-day alongside the Maintenance Coordinator at Kensington, liaise directly with contractors, stay on top of WHS compliance, and make sure every building is safe, functional, and ready for residents.
What You'll Do
- Deliver end-to-end preventative and reactive maintenance across both buildings
- Manage the maintenance workflow in Sorted — responding to jobs within SLA, keeping records current, and closing them out promptly
- Manage and work alongside the Maintenance Coordinator at Kensington, sharing workload and pitching in on the tools where needed
- Communicate proactively with residents about maintenance scheduling, access, and job completion
- Issue Notices of Access in line with legislative requirements
- Coordinate contractors on site — sign-in/out, quotes, scheduling, supervision, and checking quality of work
- Carry out daily building walks, flag issues from the 10-year lifecycle plan, and feed capital works recommendations up to the General Manager
- Support mobilisation and defect management during the new asset's stabilisation phase
- Carry out WHS compliance tasks — daily building walks, incident reporting, and SWMS documentation
- Keep facilities records up to date — procurement requests, warranties, and service documentation
- Support the operations team on room readiness and turnaround during tenancy transitions
About You
- 2-4 years' hands-on maintenance experience within hotels, student accommodation, commercial property, or a related environment
- Solid working knowledge of WH&S;, fire safety, building compliance, and relevant NSW legislation
- Experience working alongside or coordinating contractors
- Trade background and/or hands-on property maintenance experience highly regarded
- Strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Excellent communicator — able to engage residents, contractors, and internal stakeholders with clarity and professionalism
- Highly organised, self-driven, and calm under pressure
- Comfortable using maintenance management software and building systems
Why Join Us?
You'll be joining at a genuinely exciting time — with a brand-new 491-bed property coming online, there's a real opportunity to build something from the ground up. This is a role with scope, variety, and genuine ownership across a growing portfolio.
