The opportunity to lead technically interesting automation projects from award through to completion

A stable role with an Australian-owned private company

A diverse project portfolio across manufacturing and industrial environments

The chance to improve the systems and processes that support project delivery

Crossmuller ticks all of these boxes.

About us

Crossmuller is an innovative and progressive multi-disciplined company specialising in manufacturing design, automation and systems integration. Our Engineering division designs and constructs manufacturing facilities, refurbishes existing facilities and designs and constructs automation plant for manufacturing plants and warehouses.

We are seeking a Project Manager to join our Automation Division at Somersby on the NSW Central Coast.

About the role

This is a project delivery role responsible for taking awarded projects from formal handover through engineering, procurement, manufacture, installation, commissioning and close-out. You will work closely with the Business Development team during project handover and, where required, support technical and commercial clarification. The primary focus of the role, however, is successful delivery of awarded projects.

Projects may include robotic cells, automated production equipment, materials-handling systems, machine upgrades and other engineered-to-order solutions incorporating mechanical, electrical, controls, software and safety work packages.

The role will also manage selected internal improvement projects, including the rollout of systems, software and standardised workflows supporting Crossmuller's engineered-to-order project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

Lead the structured handover of awarded projects from Business Development, confirming scope, assumptions, exclusions, commercial commitments, risks, milestones and customer requirements.

Develop and maintain project execution plans, schedules, budgets, resource plans, procurement requirements, risk registers and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.

Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across automation, electrical, mechanical, software,

fabrication, machining, installation and commissioning activities.

Act as the principal day-to-day contact for customers after project award, maintaining clear communication on progress, decisions, risks, dependencies and required customer inputs.

Manage project scope and commercial performance, including change control, variations, subcontractor commitments, progress claims, cost-to-complete forecasting and margin protection.

Facilitate design reviews, safety reviews and technical coordination to ensure the delivered solution meets contractual, operational, quality and regulatory requirements.

Identify and resolve delivery issues early, escalating material commercial, technical or scheduling risks where appropriate.

Coordinate factory acceptance testing, site installation, commissioning, customer acceptance, documentation, training and project close-out.

Support continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and contributing to more consistent estimating, handover, planning and delivery practices.

Manage internal business improvement projects, including implementation of project management, engineering, estimating, document control, ERP or workflow systems for engineered-to-order delivery.

Work with internal stakeholders to define requirements, map processes, manage vendors, coordinate testing and training, and support adoption of new systems and ways of working.

About you

Demonstrated experience managing engineering, automation, manufacturing or other technically complex projects from award through to completion.

Strong project controls capability, including scheduling, resource planning, risk management, procurement, variations and stakeholder reporting.

The ability to coordinate multidisciplinary technical teams without needing to personally perform every engineering task.

Commercial awareness and confidence managing customer expectations, contractual scope and project changes.

Clear written and verbal communication, with a practical and organised approach to project delivery.

Strong problem-solving skills and the judgement to balance technical, commercial and schedule considerations.

Competence with Microsoft Office and project planning tools. Experience with ERP, document management, workflow or project delivery systems will be well regarded.

A degree or trade background in engineering, automation, mechatronics, electrical, mechanical or a related discipline is preferred, although substantial relevant project delivery experience will also be considered.

Experience in industrial automation, robotics, systems integration or engineered-to-order manufacturing will be highly regarded.

What this role is - and is not

This role works closely with Business Development, but it is not a BDM position. The Business Development team remains responsible for chance development, commercial negotiation and securing the order. The Project Manager becomes accountable once the project is awarded, with a clear focus on delivery, customer management, commercial control and successful project completion.

The opportunity

This is a full-time permanent position within Crossmuller's Automation Division. It offers the opportunity to lead varied industrial automation projects while also helping improve the systems and processes Crossmuller uses to deliver engineered-to-order work.

Your experience and contribution will be supported by competitive remuneration, excellent working conditions and the stability of an established Australian-owned company.

As part of the selection process, applicants must be prepared to undergo a pre-employment medical examination, including functional, audiometric and drug and alcohol testing.

Crossmuller is an Equal Opportunity Employer
