The Role
We are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our Finance team. The Accountant will lead and manage the project cost reporting within Martinus. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to closely collaborate with the operation team to ensure effective cost management throughout the life of the project.
Job tasks and responsibilities
Taxation & Compliance:
- Manage the monthly company income tax and tax effect accounting as part of the month-end closing process, ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and accounting standards.
- Prepare and lodge monthly Business Activity Statements (BAS), Goods and Services Tax (GST), and Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) returns in accordance with Australian Taxation Office (ATO) requirements.
- Process monthly Fuel Tax Credit (FTC) claims to ensure accurate reporting and maximization of entitlements.
- Oversee and manage the annual Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) process, implementing best practices to track FBT obligations throughout the year and ensure compliance.
- Lead the Research & Development (R&D;) grant application process, ensuring eligibility, documentation, and compliance with relevant guidelines.
- Coordinate and facilitate the Export Market Development Grant (EMDG) process, ensuring the business maximizes available incentives.
- Manage the end-to-end fixed assets process, including additions, disposals, depreciation calculations, asset class transfers, and revaluations in compliance with accounting standards.
- Approve monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and adherence to financial reporting principles.
- Assist in the preparation of annual statutory accounts, including financial statement schedules, disclosures, and compliance with Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) requirements.
- Research and prepare technical accounting white papers on AASB interpretations as needed, ensuring alignment with financial reporting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Business Advisory & Process Improvement:
- Analyze financial data to provide insights on tax planning, cost efficiencies, and business financial health.
- Assist with the development and implementation of internal controls, financial policies, and best practices to enhance reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Support senior management in financial decision-making by providing accurate financial reports, reconciliations, and compliance updates.
Other Duties:
- Perform other ad hoc accounting tasks as required, including financial analysis, system improvements, and support for external audits.
Skills required:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Excellent communication skills dealing with a variety of different stakeholders
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to consistently produce accurate information at a quick pace
- Well-honed and can manage competing deadlines
- Ability to drive improvements and efficiencies through innovation and self-initiative
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships
