Seeking a Mechanical Services Estimator for a Statewide Role.

The role
Are you an experienced estimator with robust mechanical services knowledge and an exceptional eye for detail?
We are seeking a capable and motivated Mechanical Services Estimator for a statewide role that can be based out of Hobart, Launceston or Burnie supporting projects across Tasmania. You will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for a range of commercial, industrial and residential mechanical services projects.
This role will work closely with clients, project managers, engineers, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure tenders and project estimates are accurate, compliant and commercially viable.
Responsibilities Include
- Accurate Estimating: Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for mechanical services projects, including labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors and other project-related expenses.
- Tender Preparation: Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications and scopes of work to identify project requirements and prepare professional tender submissions within required timeframes.
- Technical Knowledge: Apply your knowledge of mechanical services, HVAC, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, associated controls, relevant legislation,
codes and Australian Standards.
- Supplier and Subcontractor Engagement: Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure pricing is accurate, competitive and aligned with project requirements.
- Project Handover: Provide clear and detailed handovers to project managers and operational teams following the successful award of work.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants, engineers, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams.
- Risk and Opportunity Identification: Identify potential project risks, exclusions, variations, cost-saving opportunities and value-management options during the estimating process.
Continuous Improvement: Remain informed of industry developments, material pricing, construction methods and estimating best practices to improve accuracy and efficiency. Successful Applicants will have the following skill set:
- Relevant Experience: Demonstrated experience in mechanical services, HVAC, refrigeration or building services estimating, ideally across commercial and industrial projects.
- Industry Knowledge: A strong understanding of mechanical services systems, HVAC, refrigeration, ventilation, associated controls, relevant building codes, regulations and Australian Standards.
- Estimating Capability: Experience preparing detailed estimates, tender submissions, bills of quantities, labour allowances and material take-offs.
- Technical Proficiency: Confidence interpreting construction drawings, specifications, schedules and tender documentation.
Experience using estimating and project management software will be highly regarded.
- Attention to Detail: A thorough and methodical approach, with the ability to identify discrepancies, risks, exclusions and opportunities within project documentation.
- Commercial Awareness: A sound understanding of project costs, margins, contractual requirements and commercial risk.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with clients, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
- Time Management: The ability to manage multiple tenders, competing priorities and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Minimum requirements
- Relevant mechanical services, HVAC, refrigeration, engineering or trade qualifications are highly regarded
- Construction Industry White Card
- Current driver licence
- Current National Police Check, or willingness to obtain one
- Working with Vulnerable People registration, or willingness to obtain one
- Relevant industry experience and demonstrated estimating capability
- Ability to travel throughout Tasmania as required
