Mid-level .NET Developer (Development & Customer Support)
WorkGuru is a job management platform for fabrication, engineering, and construction businesses. We're a small Aussie software company, profitable and growing, and we're after a mid-level .NET developer to help us build the platform, look after our customers, and be part of the journey as we try to take over the world and become the world's best operations execution platform.
The Role
It's a mix - half building software, half looking after the people who use it. In the code you'll be shipping features and integrations, improving what's there, helping to modernise the platform and continually working towards resiliency and scalability. With customers you'll be getting into a problem, working out what's really going on, and sorting it.
What's in it for you
Join a small business that's growing quick and you'll do a lot more than stare at a screen writing code:
Real autonomy. A genuine say in your work and how you grow - not a narrow lane and a rulebook.
A direct line to the founders. Your ideas won't vanish into a committee.
Breadth you won't get this early elsewhere. Not just code, but how our clients actually run their businesses, real customer contact, and a bit of everything a small team throws at you, with room to grow into more as we do.
Tooling and Growth. We'll provide the hardware and tooling you need, and help you learn anything needed to get the job done.
A stable home. Bootstrapped and profitable, so there's no VC clock ticking and no restructure roulette.
What we're really after
Honestly, this is more about how you work than a checklist of tech:
C#/.NET Ecosystem. We're looking for someone who already has experience in the C#/.NET ecosystem. If your prior experience does not include professional .NET development, then this role is not for you.
Mid-level (3+ years). Ideal candidates will have at least 3 years of commercial .NET experience.
Someone who can talk to real humans. You've got decent soft skills and aren't afraid to jump on a phone call or screenshare with a customer to walk through a problem.
A self-starter who still knows when to ask. We'll give you the tools, environment and training to succeed, but we won't hold your hand.
Our ideal candidate is someone who can be handed a ticket on day 2, and who will give it a genuine crack at solving, while being comfortable reaching out for help if they hit a dead-end.
Familiarity with SMB/Startups. The successful candidate will need to be adaptable and comfortable with the environment of a smaller business. We don't have 6 ticket levels or dozens of rule/run-books that a large corporate environment may have
Tech-wise this is a generalist role across the full stack. Specialists are still welcome to apply, as long as you're happy stepping outside your specialty when the work calls for it (which will be often).
What you'll be doing day to day
Diagnosing, debugging and resolving customer support tickets
Designing, building and testing new features
Digging into logs and metrics to catch problems
Working alongside customers day to day, not just when the queue backs up
Bigger projects you can grow into over time
Modernising the platform (we're in the process of a .NET Framework -> Core migration)
Better metrics and analytics
QA and test hardening
CI/CD, DevOps and infrastructure improvements
Designing and building new integrations
Incorporating AI in meaningful ways
The stack we work with
You won't need all of this on day one. The more you know the faster you'll get going, and we're glad to teach you the rest. The app is a multi-tenant SaaS built on ASP.NET Zero / ABP, with a fair bit of older .NET Framework we're actively moving to .NET Core.
Frontend: Razor Views, HTML / CSS / JS, jQuery, Bootstrap (Metronic)
Mobile: .NET MAUI
Tools: Freshdesk, Aircall, and AI tooling
Bonus points for any of: ABP framework experience, Hangfire, a grasp of accounting / inventory / project-management concepts, or time spent in or around startups and small businesses.
Where and how you'll work
Brisbane-based hybrid, out of our Salisbury office (on-site and off-site parking available).
Initially you will be expected to work from the office 4 days per week while we get you up to speed and get to know one another. After you've found your feet, we're happy to ease back to 3 days in-office - as long as the work is done and the customers are happy, we're flexible on the rest.
We're small and we move fast, with light process and a lot of freedom. You'll wear a few hats and make plenty of calls/decisions yourself. If that sounds energising rather than daunting, you'll fit right in.
Please note this is not a fully-remote role. If you are not Brisbane-based, or willing to relocate, or require 100% remote, then this is not the role for you and we respectfully ask that you do not apply.
The non-negotiables
A few things we can't budge on:
Full working rights in Australia, with no sponsorship needed. We're at our sponsorship capacity, so we can't consider applications that need it. Sorry!
Solid commercial C#/.NET experience. - you've done this professionally before.
A real cover letter. We read every one - it's how we get a first feel for you. Applications without a cover letter, or with a generic cover letter, will not be considered.
How the process works
A quick intro chat so we can say hi and get a loose feel for fit.
A sit-down with Shannon (our tech lead) and Tony (one of our founders) - non-technical, just getting into the details properly.
An in-person working session where we set you a real-world problem or two and work through them together. We care far more about how you think and problem-solve than about perfect code, so the session will not allow AI usage (but it will be open-book and we're happy for you to google the old-fashioned way!). For those who wish to show their AI prowess, we're open to giving you that opportunity on top of the AI-free session.
We build software for small and medium businesses, we take their concerns seriously, and we'll move heaven and Earth to do right by them. If that sounds like your kind of place, we'd love to hear from you.
Be careful - Don’t provide your bank or credit card details when applying for jobs. Don't transfer any money or complete suspicious online surveys. If you see something suspicious, report this job ad .
