We are seeking a commercially minded accountant who is passionate about understanding what drives business performance. The successful candidate will bring robust technical accounting skills combined with exceptional analytical capability, enabling them to deliver meaningful financial insights, robust reporting, and accurate reconciliations.

About the Role

The Commercial Accountant is responsible for delivering accurate business analysis and commercial insights that support strategic and operational decision-making across the business. This role plays a key part in maintaining the integrity of financial information while providing detailed analysis of business performance, job profitability and cost drivers to improve overall commercial outcomes.

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, the Commercial Accountant acts as a trusted business partner to both finance and operational teams, providing meaningful financial insights and recommendations that drive profitability, efficiency, and informed decision-making. The role combines strong technical accounting expertise with a commercial focus on performance analysis, forecasting, reporting, and continuous improvement.

Hybrid Position – This role provides the best of both worlds, offering a mix of remote work and office-based collaboration. Candidates can enjoy the flexibility of working from home while spending some time in the office to connect with colleagues, build relationships,



and support team initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

- 1. Commercial Analysis & Business Partnering
- Provide detailed financial and operational analysis to support commercial and strategic decision-making.
- Analyse profitability, margins, cost performance, labour utilisation, and revenue trends across business operations.
- Partner with operational managers to identify financial risks, opportunities, and key performance drivers.
- Deliver meaningful insights and recommendations to improve business performance and profitability.
- Support management with financial modelling, scenario analysis, and business case evaluations.
- Investigate and explain variances against budgets, forecasts, and prior year performance.

- 2. Performance Reporting

- Analyse margin performance and identify opportunities to improve revenue generation and cost control.
- Provide commentary and recommendations to management regarding profitability trends and operational performance.
- Monitor key business metrics and deliver reporting that supports informed decision-making.
- Assist in developing and enhancing reporting tools, dashboards, and KPIs.

- 3. Job Costing & Profitability Reporting

- Produce detailed job-level Profit & Loss reporting and profitability analysis.
- Monitor project and job performance, including revenue, labour, materials, subcontractor costs, and overhead allocation.
- Analyse actual performance against budget, forecast, and target margins.
- Work closely with operational teams to ensure accurate costing and revenue recognition.




- Identify underperforming jobs and provide recommendations to improve commercial outcomes.
- Support forecasting and financial planning through ongoing analysis of job and project performance.

- 4. Reporting & Forecasting

- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning processes.
- Assist with the preparation of business performance reports, board reporting, and financial presentations.
- Provide ad hoc analysis, reporting, and project support to the Financial Controller and wider leadership team.
- Support external audit requirements and provide necessary financial analysis and reconciliations.
- Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of finance systems, reporting processes, and internal controls.

Skills & Experience

- Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- CPA or CA qualified or working towards qualification.
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a Commercial Accountant, Management Accountant, or similar role.
- Strong experience in business analysis, financial reporting, and profitability analysis.
- Demonstrated experience preparing detailed management reports, margin analysis, and job profitability reporting.
- Advanced reconciliation skills with the ability to investigate and resolve complex financial variances.
- Strong commercial acumen and understanding of operational business drivers.
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, Power Query, and financial modelling.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to communicate financial information effectively to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Experience within Labour Hire industry would be an advantage.
- Exposure to operational KPI reporting, business performance analysis, and commercial decision support.
