Workshop Supervisor – Vehicle Modifications
We're a Brisbane-based business with over 10 years' experience modifying vehicles for wheelchair accessibility and other custom applications. We also run a vehicle servicing and repair workshop. We're looking for a Workshop Supervisor to lead our vehicle modification section — someone who can run the floor, manage a small crew, and keep quality and output on track. This role is part of the leadership team and can have a significant influence on the future of the business.
The Role
You'll take day-to-day responsibility for the vehicle modification workshop, overseeing a small team and coordinating the full range of work we do. This will include mentoring and technical guidance to tradespeople, supporting their development within the section. It also involves job scheduling, quality control, liaising with suppliers, and making sure jobs are completed safely, on time, and to requirements.
The type of work
Our vehicle modification workshop carries out a wide variety of work on most brands of vans and minibuses. The work includes the following.
Installation of seats, floors, and other accessories
Design and fabrication of custom parts — seat mountings, handrails, steps, plywood floors, vinyl floor coverings, raised floor sections, shelves, storage boxes
Sourcing and installing standard and custom parts — seats,
laser-cut components, wheelchair lifters, seatbelts, wheelchair tiedowns, exhausts, electrical components, school bus lighting, bullbars, nudge bars, towbars
Cutting door openings and fabricating/installing custom doors for wheelchair access
Fuel tank and filler relocations
What We're Looking For
Proven supervisory or leadership experience in a workshop, trade, or manufacturing environment
Strong trade background — automotive, fabrication, coachbuilding, or a related field
Hands-on experience with custom fabrication and/or vehicle modification work (highly regarded)
Ability to read and interpret specifications, drawings, and standards
Strong communication skills — you'll be coordinating between tradespeople, management, suppliers and customers
A practical, safety-first approach to running a workshop
Other highly regarded skills
Familiarity with ADRs
Exposure to Lean Manufacturing principles
Knowledge of stock control systems, particularly visual systems like KanBan
What We Offer
$95,000–$115,000 (TBC) + super, based on experience
Full-time position
A stable, well-established business with long-term growth plans and varied work
The chance to lead a skilled team doing meaningful work — helping people with mobility needs travel safely
