Our core values centre on innovation, operational excellence, cost-effectiveness, and high-quality service delivery, fostering a collaborative and supportive workplace culture where technical expertise drives tangible business outcomes and subscriber satisfaction.

About the Position The Telecommunications Technical Officer plays a critical role at Online Star PTY LTD in supporting the delivery of NBN fibre and telecommunications network projects. This position involves field-based technical support, testing coordination, quality oversight and technical guidance across active project sites.

The role sits between the Project Engineers and the field technicians and is essential to ensuring that network works are delivered to the required technical standards, that faults are diagnosed and rectified efficiently, and that completed works meet client acceptance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Reviewing job packs, network plans,

asset records and scopes of work before field work begins and confirming the design intent against site conditions.
- Attending project sites to assess ground conditions, identify service and access risks, and confirm the scoped works can be built to the client design and NBN requirements.
- Providing technical direction to field technicians during fibre hauling, splicing, pit and pipe works, exchange patching and BNTD installation.
- Coordinating and verifying fibre testing using OTDR and optical power meters, and validating results against applicable NBN and client acceptance requirements before handover to the delivery partner.
- Diagnosing fibre, duct, patching and connection faults on site, tracing the cause and setting out the rectification steps required to keep the job on schedule.
- Checking completed works against the plans, job packs and NBN specifications, and confirming they are ready for submission to the project manager or delivery partner.
- Preparing and updating as-built records, test results, site reports, defect notes and completion packs.
- Coordinating with project engineers, supervisors, delivery partners, subcontractors and customers on site access, progress, technical issues and completion sign-off.
- Monitoring crews on site to confirm they follow the approved work method, the SWMS and the relevant technical standards.
- Escalating complex design,

structural or safety matters to the Project Engineers or management where higher-level approval is required.
- Reviewing rejected or non-compliant work, identifying why it failed, and instructing field crews on the correct method to bring it back to standard.
- Keeping records of materials, equipment, test outcomes, network locations and work status to support project tracking and partner reporting.
- Monitoring the performance of completed fibre network segments, interpreting transmission and optical test results, and identifying where network performance requires correction or improvement.
- Configuring and integrating telecommunications network equipment, including BNTDs and related network access equipment, and verifying correct operation after installation.
- Ensuring compliance with Work Health and Safety obligations on all project sites.

Requirements

- Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
- AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in a relevant field.
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
- Strong technical skills in telecommunications network testing, fault diagnosis, equipment configuration and integration, including practical experience with OTDR and optical power meters.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to maintain accurate documentation and logs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for liaising with internal teams, delivery partners, vendors and clients.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with a focus on quality standards and operational efficiency.
