Emergency Response Superintendent

Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009 and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialized mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.

The Role

Provides strategic and operational leadership for site emergency preparedness and emergency response to protect personnel, assets, and the environment across surface and underground mining operations. Serving as the site Incident Commander during major events, this role governs fire protection systems and emergency fleets, drives compliance with Egyptian Civil Defence requirements, conducts crisis simulations, and strengthens overall crisis resilience in support of SGM’s Zero Harm objectives.

Key Responsibilities & Performance Indicators

- Incident Command & Emergency Response Operations
- On-Scene Incident Leadership: Direct on-scene emergency response activities as Incident Commander/Controller, ensuring rapid mobilization, effective resource deployment, site stabilization, and structured handover/recovery.
- Resource Integration: Coordinate operational, medical, security, and technical resources during critical events to minimize harm and protect company assets.
- On-Call Availability: Maintain 24/7 on-call availability for immediate mobilization during emergency activations and crisis escalations.




- Planning & Scenario Management: Develop and maintain site emergency response plans, procedures, and escalation pathways aligned to surface and underground risk registers.
- Drill & Exercise Governance: Plan, approve, and govern comprehensive drill programs and crisis simulations; document debriefs and drive corrective action close-outs.
- Fire Systems & Fleet Readiness: Assure maximum availability and compliance of fire detection, alarm, and suppression systems, as well as emergency vehicles (appliances/ambulances), SCBA gear, and rescue equipment.
- Egyptian Civil Defense Compliance: Lead engagement and maintain full compliance with Egyptian Civil Defense requirements, fire code obligations, and statutory permits.
- Audit & Assurance: Act as the primary technical interface during authority and insurance audits, preparing defensible evidence packs and executing corrective action plans.
- Investigations & EMS: Lead structured root-cause investigations for emergency events and high-potential incidents. Ensure compliance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 governance standards.
- Communications & Working Relations
- Internal: HSES Manager, General Manager, Leadership Team, Operations (UG/OP Mining & Processing), Engineering, Mobile Maintenance, Security, Medical/Clinic, and Corporate HSES.
- External: Egyptian Civil Defense authorities, insurance auditors, local hospitals, external emergency services,



and life-safety equipment contractors.
- Qualifications, Experience & Skills

Minimum Education & Certifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Emergency Management, Fire Engineering, or a related discipline.

- Safety Certifications: NEBOSH International Diploma / IGC or NEBOSH Fire Certificate.
- Technical Certifications: Incident Command System (ICS) certification, NFPA standards alignment, and ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 knowledge.
- Licenses & Clearances: Valid driving license, SCBA user authorization, and medical fitness clearance for underground access.

Experience Profile

- Years of Experience: 9–11 years of progressive HSES and Emergency Response experience within heavy industry (Mining, Construction, Oil & Gas).
- Leadership Experience: Minimum 6+ years directly leading emergency response teams and fire/rescue operations.
- Non-Negotiable Expertise: Deep operational background in Emergency Response (ER) and Incident Command.
- Life Safety Projects: Proven background evaluating, reviewing, and auditing life safety equipment, engineering designs, and underground rescue/reclaim protocols.
- Core Technical & Behavioral Competencies
- Incident Command Expertise: Decisive, risk-based decision-making under high-pressure scenarios with robust command of scene control and communication protocols.
- Regulatory Liaison: Proven track record in successfully managing Civil Defense inspections and authority engagement.
- Team Leadership: Ability to lead, coach, and maintain fitness/competency compliance for emergency response personnel.
- Languages: Professional business/technical fluency in Arabic and in English
