Business Analyst - Research Analysis, Data and Reporting

The Business Analyst plays a key role in shaping and enhancing the digital platforms and data systems that underpin world-leading research and innovation at UNSW. Working across a complex enterprise environment, you will partner with business and technical stakeholders to understand challenges, identify opportunities, and deliver technology enabled improvements that enhance how research information, services and processes are managed across the University.
In this role, you will act as the bridge between business needs and technology outcomes, translating requirements into practical solutions that deliver value for users and stakeholders. You will support a diverse portfolio of initiatives, including business process improvement, enterprise platform enhancements, reporting and analytics, and the implementation of new capabilities that support the evolving needs of the research community.
Working closely with colleagues within unit and across Faculties, Schools, Divisions and external partners, you will build robust relationships and navigate complex stakeholder environments to deliver meaningful outcomes. Who you are
You are an enthusiastic and proactive business analyst who is eager to learn and enjoys working at the intersection of people, processes and technology. You are curious about how organisations operate and motivated by opportunities to improve systems, data and business processes. You can demonstrate a history of taking ownership of complex problems and delivering effective solutions.
You will bring experience gained within a large and complex organisation. Experience within higher education or a research environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
Level 6
At Level 6, you may be developing your technical capability and will bring a strong interest in building your expertise in writing SQL and Python, understanding systems, and developing reports. You will also demonstrate:
- Experience in business analysis or supporting technical projects, including requirements gathering, process mapping, wireframing and user acceptance testing.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to understand business needs and contribute to practical solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a genuine interest in understanding and improving business processes.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain attention to detail.
- A collaborative, adaptable and proactive approach, with the ability to take initiative and contribute effectively within a team.
Level 7
In addition to the Level 6 capabilities, at Level 7 you will bring a solid level of experience and be able to demonstrate strong technical capability and stakeholder management skills, including proficiency in SQL and Python, a good understanding of systems, and reporting (data visualisation).
You will also demonstrate:
- Experience leading stakeholder engagement and requirements gathering for significant business process change or information system implementations.
- The ability to translate complex business requirements into clear, practical technical solutions.
- Experience implementing new systems or significant system enhancements, including process mapping, data migration, systems configuration and user acceptance testing.
- Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to navigate competing priorities and build productive relationships across business and technical teams.
- The ability to work with greater independence, exercise sound judgement and take ownership of initiatives through to implementation.
