We are currently seeking an experienced CNC Programmer / First Class Machinist to join our Smithfield Toolroom on a full-time, permanent basis.
This hands‑on role is ideal for a skilled machinist with strong CNC programming and setup experience, who takes pride in producing high‑precision components in a toolroom or precision manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- CNC programming, setup, and operation (primarily milling)
- Manufacture precision components to engineering drawings and specifications
- Program proving and first‑off inspections
- Tool selection and machining strategy optimisation
- Inspection using micrometres, verniers, and gauges
- Troubleshooting machining and production issues
- Maintain tooling, machinery, and a safe, clean work workplace
Skills & Experience
- Trade qualified First Class Machinist / Toolmaker (Australian recognised) would be advantageous
- Strong CNC milling programming and operating experience
- Experience in a toolroom or precision engineering environment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experience with CAM software (CAD/CAM advantageous)
- Experience with CNC Wire EDM (highly regarded but not essential)
- Strong understanding of tolerances and precision machining
- Solid knowledge of WHS practices
- Strong problem‑solving ability and attention to detail
- Reliable, self‑motivated, and able to work independently or in a team
