POSITION DESCRIPTION

Westminster is an Early Learning to Year 12, coeducational day and boarding, Uniting Church school with a

Key Relationships

The Year 10 Coordinator is responsible to the Deputy Principal/Head of

Senior School and the Principal and works closely with Year 10

teachers, students, Heads of House, staff, families and students

Position Objective:

The Year 10 Coordinator is a key pastoral and administrative leadership position within the School. The

position is responsible for supporting students through a significant year of growth, increased independence

and preparation for Stage 1 SACE. The Year 10 Coordinator provides oversight of Year 10 student wellbeing,

academic progress, subject selection, pathway planning and WestQuest participation. The role is charged

with ensuring students are well prepared for the academic, personal and organisational demands of Years 11

and 12 and will involve a teaching component.

Key Responsibilities:

1. School leadership

- Contribute to the pastoral and strategic leadership of the Senior School.

- Promote Westminster's values and foster a culture of wellbeing, engagement and belonging.

- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Year 10 programs, student support structures and

School priorities.

- Actively participate in relevant professional learning, committees and School events

2. Leadership of the Year 10 Program

- Lead the planning,



delivery and evaluation of the Year 10 program, ensuring students are supported

through a significant year of growth and preparation for senior secondary studies.

- In conjunction with the Heads of House, curriculum leaders and other stakeholders oversee key Year

10 initiatives, including induction, transition, pathway planning and experiential learning opportunities

such as WestQuest.

- Coordinate administrative, operational and communication requirements associated with the Year 10

cohort.

- Work closely with the Directors of Teaching and Learning to assist in the development of curriculum,

learning experiences and programs that support student engagement and success.

3. Student Wellbeing, Learning and Pathways

- Alongside the Heads of House, coordinate student wellbeing, learning, engagement and behaviour

across the Year 10 cohort.

- Support students and families in subject selection, pathway planning and preparation for Stage 1

SACE in partnership with the Director of Learning, Directors of Teaching and Learning, Careers staff

and Heads of House.

- Monitor student progress and coordinate interventions to support academic achievement, attendance,

wellbeing and successful transitions.

- Foster resilience, independence and a positive approach to learning and personal development.

4. Staff leadership and Collaboration

- Work collaboratively with Heads of House, tutors and teachers to ensure a consistent and supportive

approach to student wellbeing and learning.

- Support staff in responding to student needs and implementing appropriate strategies for

engagement, behaviour and achievement.

- Facilitate effective communication, collaboration and information sharing across the Year 10 team.

5. Community Engagement and Communication

- Develop positive and productive partnerships with students, families and staff.

- Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress, wellbeing and key Year 10

initiatives.

- Promote the Year 10 program and foster opportunities for community connection and participation.





- Ensure Senior School leadership is appropriately informed of significant cohort matters and emerging

trends.

6. Other Responsibilities

- Contribute to the pastoral care and co-curricular programs of the School.

- Support the ethos and values of Westminster School.

- Other duties, as required by Principal.

Key Selection Criteria: Qualifications, Skills and Experience

- Relevant tertiary qualifications

- Demonstrated experience in a similar role

- Demonstrated experience as an effective leader of teachers

- Exemplary classroom practitioner with a proven record of student outcomes

- High level of ICT skills, knowledge and incorporation into classroom practice

- Regular and up to date professional knowledge and learning

- Experience in a complex and diverse independent coeducational workplace desirable

- Experience in change management

- Understanding of the transition from Primary to Secondary school process

- Understanding of the needs of adolescents

Safety and Wellbeing

All staff must:

- Take reasonable care of, and cooperate with actions taken to protect, the health and safety of both

themselves and others

- Report all accidents, incidents and hazards to their supervisors as soon as is practicable

- Read and abide by all WHS policies.

Conditions of Employment

- All applicants must be eligible to work in Australia

- Teachers must have (or be eligible to obtain) current registration with Teachers Registration Board

of South Australia

- All staff must satisfy child protection screening and adhere to Westminster’s Child Safety and

Wellbeing policy which includes holding a current Working With Children Clearance

- All teaching staff must have completed current First Aid training

- A 6 month probationary period applies
