We are a growing small business specialising in innovative fluid filtration and separation solutions. As we continue to expand our product range and capabilities, we are looking for a motivated Design Engineer to join our established design team.
Working alongside our Design Lead and team, you will contribute to the design, development and continuous improvement of products that support a wide range of specialised industries. About the Role
As a Design Engineer, you will support the design and development of new and existing products while working closely with our Design Lead, Operations and other internal stakeholders. You will contribute to engineering projects, prepare technical documentation, and assist in delivering practical, high-quality design solutions that meet customer requirements and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the design and development of new products and improvements to existing products.
- Produce detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and supporting technical documentation.
- Collaborate with the Design Lead and wider engineering team to develop practical, manufacturable solutions.
- Participate in design reviews, feasibility studies and risk assessments.
- Support prototyping, testing and product validation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on product performance, reliability and cost.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant Australian and international standards, quality requirements and safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation and revision control.
Skills & Experience - Highly Desirable
- Experience within defence, aerospace, mining, industrial equipment, or other regulated manufacturing industries.
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and/or PDM systems.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or equivalent quality management systems.
- Experience with prototype testing, validation, and verification activities.
- Knowledge of FMEA, risk assessment, and root cause analysis methodologies.
- Experience working directly with suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Exposure to machining, fabrication, sheet metal, welding, casting, injection moulding, or additive manufacturing processes.
- Experience managing engineering projects, schedules, and stakeholder communication.
Skills & Experience - Must Have
- Minimum 3 years' experience in product or mechanical design within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
- Experience progressing designs from concept through prototyping, testing, and production release.
- Proficiency in GD&T; and engineering drawing interpretation in accordance with relevant standards.
- Experience with engineering change management processes and revision-controlled design documentation.
- Robust understanding of design documentation, drafting standards, and engineering fundamentals.
- Knowledge of material selection, manufacturing processes, and DFM/DFA principles.
- Strong understanding of CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and assembly processes, with the ability to design components for efficient manufacture.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical engineering mindset.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
- High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to manage competing priorities while contributing to multiple engineering projects.
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience with prototyping, testing and product validation.
- Knowledge of plastics, metals, and/or fluid handling systems.
- Familiarity with Australian/ International Standards relevant to mechanical or product design engineering
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering or a related discipline.
- Full Australian working rights.
