Neumann Contractors is a family-owned Queensland business established in 1948. We build and support dredging plant and heavy equipment, backed by in-house fabrication, engineering services, industrial coatings, and a dedicated fleet maintenance division. We are proud of our long history, strong reputation and commitment to quality, safety and our people.
Build the Planning Function with us
This is an exciting opportunity to establish and shape the maintenance planning function within our growing dredging business. As we implement JD Edwards as our primary maintenance planning and CMMS platform, you'll play a key role in developing practical work‑management processes and influence how maintenance is planned, scheduled and improved across our dredging fleet.
About the role
Neumann Contractors is seeking an experienced Maintenance Planner to join our Dredging team based at our Currumbin workshop.
This is an opportunity to help establish and shape the maintenance-planning function within our growing dredging business. Rather than stepping into a fully established planning system, you will help define the role, build practical planning processes and establish the standards that will support the business into the future.
The position will support the safe and reliable operation of our cutter suction dredges, booster stations, workboats and associated mobile and fixed plant. You will work closely with maintenance supervisors, project teams and Operations to improve equipment availability and ensure work is properly planned, resourced and scheduled.
The role is primarily based in Currumbin, with occasional travel to project sites as required.
Key responsibilities:
As a Maintenance Planner you will:
- Assist with the implementation and ongoing development of JDE as the maintenance CMMS.
- Help establish practical maintenance‑planning, scheduling and work‑management processes.
- Develop equipment hierarchies, preventative maintenance programs,
task lists, bills of materials and maintenance master data within JDE.
- Develop detailed job plans covering labour, parts, tooling, external services and safety requirements.
- Plan major component replacements, shutdowns and equipment overhauls.
- Review upcoming maintenance requirements and prepare weekly and longer‑term maintenance schedules.
- Manage maintenance work orders from initial identification through planning, scheduling and close‑out.
- Coordinate parts availability with purchasing, stores, suppliers and maintenance personnel.
- Monitor overdue work, equipment defects and preventative‑maintenance compliance.
- Review completed work orders and improve future job plans using feedback from supervisors and tradespeople.
- Assist with maintenance budgeting, forecasting and cost tracking.
- Support reliability improvements and identify recurring equipment issues.
- Work collaboratively with Operations to align maintenance priorities with project requirements.
- Provide planning support to site‑based maintenance teams when required.
About you
To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:
Previous experience as a Maintenance Planner in the marine, dredging, mining, heavy construction or heavy‑equipment industry
Practical experience using JDE or a comparable maintenance CMMS.
Experience implementing, developing or improving maintenance‑planning systems and processes.
A mechanical or electrical trade qualification, or relevant engineering or maintenance‑planning experience.
A sound understanding of preventative maintenance, defect management and major component planning.
Experience preparing detailed work packages and coordinating labour, parts and external resources.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing operational priorities.
Good communication skills and a practical, collaborative approach.
The confidence to challenge existing practices and help build a planning function suited to the needs of the business.
Robust attention to detail and confidence working with maintenance data.
Competency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Experience with dredges, marine vessels, diesel engines, hydraulic systems, pumps or heavy mobile equipment would be highly regarded.
Why Join Neumann Contractors?
This is an opportunity to build something from the ground up. As our Maintenance Planner, you'll help establish the maintenance planning function within our Dredging business while playing a key role in implementing and developing JDE as our primary maintenance management system.
Working closely with Maintenance, Operations and Engineering teams, you'll have the opportunity to influence how maintenance is planned, scheduled and executed across a specialised marine fleet. You'll be empowered to improve equipment reliability, develop practical planning processes and make a lasting impact on the way our business manages maintenance.
