The project engineer’s responsibilities are to provide project management and engineering support for the projects that they are assigned. A project engineer may also be assigned standalone projects for which they have single point project management responsibility. The project engineer must maintain a professional working relationship with clients, vendors, as well as other Jord staff at all times.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review the sales job file before prior to Jord’s internal kick off meeting to ensure it is comprehensive. Any grey areas or omissions shall be reported to sales and a timeline for resolution agreed
- Based on contractual requirements and Jord procedures develop and implement a project execution plan and schedules covering engineering, procurement, manufacturing and quality
- Generate RFQs for supplier’s scope of work, evaluate supplier quotations, negotiate technical and commercial terms with suppliers, generally liaise with suppliers until Purchase Order award and supplier acceptance
- Assume single point of contact responsibility for project suppliers through the execution of their orders with tasks including, but not limited to:
- Monitoring order progress, expediting, responding to technical queries, managing document submission and review processes, arranging bank security bonds, arranging quality control activities, in-person transnational and international visits to supplier premises (as required), reviewing completion of milestones, invoice approval.
- Liaise with customers on topics assigned by the Project Manager and/or Head of Operations/Operations Manager
- Manage document submissions to the customer
- Proactively lead to ensure that the project deliverables are known to the team and produced in a timely, productive and adequate manner in line with the baseline project execution plan
- Supervise project staff and manufacturing processes and make appropriate recommendations for improvement
- Ensure that each project stays within the allocated budget and timeframe
- Participate/schedule in project meetings and participate/prepare training sessions
- Support assigned Project Manager as required and promptly report any critical risks to the applicable Project Manager, Operations Manager and/or Head of Operations
- Execute project reporting in line with Jord procedures in a timely manner
- Perform special tasks as assigned
- Adhere to Jord’s company systems such as Job Summary, Job Status Reports, JobHub, Procurement Portal, Sky reporting and the Event Notes database
- Adhere to all Jord company policies and IMS requirements
Skills and Experience:
- At least two years’ project management experience with an understanding of Engineering, Fabrication Procedures, Sourcing, Procurement, Shipping and QA/QC Methods
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering and/or Project Management
- Proven experience in managing projects that adhere to timeline, budgets, quality and mitigate risk
- Proven understanding and experience in commercial terms and financial objectives of projects
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong business relationships with customers
