Grubers Beckett Chartered Accountants is seeking an Accountant / Bookkeeper to join our Cairns office.

This is a varied, full-time position covering accounting, taxation, bookkeeping and client support. We are open to applicants across different experience levels, from someone developing their accounting career through to an experienced accountant or bookkeeper looking for a long-term role within a supportive public practice firm.

About the role

Grubers Beckett Chartered Accountants is seeking an Accountant / Bookkeeper to join our Cairns office.

This is a varied, full time position covering accounting, taxation, bookkeeping and client support. Key responsibilities

Depending on your experience, your responsibilities may include:

- Preparing individual, partnership, trust and company income tax returns
- Preparing financial statements and management reports
- Completing BAS, IAS and GST reconciliations
- Providing bookkeeping and payroll services for clients
- Maintaining accurate client accounting records
- Preparing and reviewing bank, loan and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assisting with tax planning and general compliance matters
- Communicating with clients, the ATO and other government agencies
- Assisting clients with Xero and cloud-based accounting systems
- Supporting senior accountants and managers with client matters
- Managing workflow and ensuring compliance deadlines are met

About you

The ideal applicant will have:





- Experience in accounting, taxation, bookkeeping or a related role
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- A professional and approachable manner when dealing with clients
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A willingness to learn and develop professionally
- Australian working rights

Experience within an Australian public practice accounting firm will be highly regarded but is not essential for all applicants.

Qualifications and software

Applicants may have, or be working towards, qualifications in accounting, bookkeeping, business or a related field.

Experience with any of the following will be viewed favourably:

- Xero
- Xero Tax
- MYOB
- Microsoft Excel and Office
- Australian taxation and GST compliance
- Payroll and superannuation processing

Support may be available for suitable applicants undertaking further accounting or professional qualifications.
