We are looking for an experienced Civil Project Engineer to join a Tier 1 client's team on a significant tailings project in the Northern Territory. This is a hands on delivery role for a strong operator who can drive planning and outcomes on the ground, well rewarded and embedded on a critical project.
The Role
Reporting to the Project Superintendent, you will be responsible for the planning, coordination, execution and delivery of tailings storage facility (TSF) and associated infrastructure works, ensuring all works are completed safely, on schedule, within budget and in compliance with client standards, regulatory requirements and industry best practice. Working closely with operations, engineering consultants, contractors and technical stakeholders, you will oversee construction activities and support the delivery of critical tailings infrastructure.
In this role you will:
- Coordinate the execution of tailings storage facility construction and upgrades.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, procurement plans and resource requirements.
- Monitor workforce performance, productivity, safety and quality throughout project delivery.
- Ensure all works comply with approved designs, technical specifications and quality requirements.
- Coordinate with the Engineer of Record (EOR), engineers, consultants and site operations.
- Manage project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Prepare scopes of work, technical documentation, tender packages and contractor evaluations.
- Monitor project costs and forecast expenditure against approved budgets.
- Facilitate site meetings, progress reporting and stakeholder communications.
- Ensure compliance with applicable mining legislation, environmental approvals, dam safety requirements and company standards.
- Support change management processes and maintain project documentation.
- Demonstrate visible leadership in safety and environmental performance, and participate in risk assessments, JHAs and pre-start meetings.
The role is site based in the Northern Territory on a 15/13 roster. We offer FIFO from any major capital, including Brisbane, Perth, Sydney or Melbourne, or DIDO for anyone living locally. All travel time and costs, along with accommodation, are covered, so you are not out of pocket for expenses, alongside ROCKFORCE's industry leading remuneration.
This is a 4 month contract with the possibility of extension.
To Be Considered You Must Meet the Following Criteria
- Substantial experience delivering civil construction works, ideally on mining tailings (TSF) or major infrastructure projects.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience specifically on mining tailings storage facility or tailings dam projects, including construction, raising, rehabilitation or sustaining capital works.
- Hands on construction delivery experience, comfortable driving planning, execution and outcomes on site.
- Proven contractor management experience, holding delivery partners to programme, cost and quality.
- Experience across bulk earthworks, embankment construction and water management infrastructure.
- A strong grasp of geotechnical and civil construction principles, constructability and site coordination across multiple stakeholders.
- A Bachelor of Engineering (Civil, Mining or related discipline).
- Able to work a 15/13 roster, site based in the NT, either FIFO from a major capital or DIDO locally.
- Current Australian driver's licence.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage and influence across the project team and contractors.
- An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
- Working rights in Australia.
Familiarity with GISTM, ANCOLD Guidelines and relevant Australian mining regulations, along with civil design and scheduling tools (12D / AutoCAD / Vulcan, MS Project / Excel), is highly regarded.
