About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Active Overnight Disability Support Worker to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a 67-year-old male participant living in Mudgeeraba.This is a fully active overnight position, requiring the successful applicant to remain awake for the entire shift while providing continuous observation, supervision and support to ensure the participant remains secure, comfortable and supported throughout the night.The participant is a 67-year-old gentleman living with Schizoaffective Disorder, mixed dementia (Frontotemporal and Alzheimer's Dementia), REM Sleep Behaviour Disorder and cognitive impairment.Due to the impact of his disability, he requires a skilled and compassionate support worker who can provide consistent supervision,
reassurance and assistance to maintain his safety, wellbeing and independence.The participant requires support with:
Overnight safety monitoring due to sleep disturbances, sleepwalking and frequent waking throughout the night.
Supervision and assistance to reduce risks associated with falls, poor balance and reduced safety awareness.
Monitoring and responding appropriately to attempts to leave the home overnight.
Providing reassurance and gentle redirection during periods of confusion or distress.
Supporting communication needs, as the participant may experience difficulty expressing himself clearly, processing complex information and communicating his needs.
Recognising that memory impairment may impact his understanding of situations and may result in him recalling events differently from others.
Supporting emotional regulation when he becomes frustrated, overwhelmed or upset.
Encouraging independence while providing appropriate guidance and supervision due to reduced judgement, insight and problem-solving ability.
The successful applicant will have a calm, patient and respectful approach and understand the importance of building trust through consistency, clear communication and reassurance. The ability to support someone experiencing cognitive changes while maintaining dignity and choice is essential for this role.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
Providing active overnight support that enables the participant to remain living safely and comfortably in his own home.
Supporting the participant to maintain his dignity, privacy and sense of control during overnight routines and periods of waking.
Providing a calm, reassuring presence that promotes feelings of safety,
familiarity and trust throughout the night.
Supporting the participant to navigate overnight activities in a way that encourages independence while ensuring appropriate supervision and assistance when required.
Responding respectfully to periods of confusion, disorientation or distress by using consistent communication approaches and reassurance.
Supporting the participant’s personal routines, preferences and choices throughout the night while recognising his individual needs and abilities.
Maintaining a safe home environment through proactive observation, risk awareness and timely support with mobility, falls prevention and safety concerns.
Encouraging the participant’s existing abilities by providing prompts and assistance only where required, promoting confidence and maintaining skills.
Supporting the participant to wake, settle and return to rest in a manner that protects his dignity and wellbeing.
Using positive, respectful interactions that recognise the participant as an individual with a history, relationships and valued place within his family and community.
Completing accurate overnight documentation and handover information to ensure continuity of support and communication with the participant’s family and GCCL team.
Working collaboratively with the participant, his family and GCCL’s support team to ensure overnight supports remain consistent, respectful and aligned with his needs and goals.
Applicants must have:
Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
Current Blue Card (or willingness to obtain).
Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
Current Driver Licence and reliable vehicle.
