Casual home carer for mum with a disability & her toddler in Glenorie

We are looking for a kind and trustworthy person who would be able to offer one or more shifts per week (of up to five hours each), helping a family spanning four generations, with three people needing care.

We mainly need help with the first two of these people:

Our married daughter (35), who has a physical disability and an anxiety disorder. She currently has limited mobility and needs assistance moving around in a wheelchair as well as help with personal care and meal preparation. She is quiet-natured, easy-going, intelligent and friendly. Her anxiety disorder requires a gentle, caring presence. She is prone to headaches from perfumes, so we will need you to use no perfumed products, and you will need to be a non-smoker.

Her 19-month old baby son, who has a sociable and sunny-natured personality and who is high energy, loves running around and playing hide and seek. Some of the care hours will be focused around helping with his care, such as nappy changes, assisting with feeding him, giving him a wash as needed, helping to keep him safe when he is playing, walking him around in the garden, and playing with and reading to him.

Less often, it would also be useful if you could help at times with my father (92), who needs assistance with meal preparation, dressing and undressing and toileting.

An intelligent man, he now has short-term memory loss, is hard of hearing and can be repetitive and a bit tactless, so kindness and patience are significant, as is speaking slowly and clearly.

With a load like this we find we usually need two carers at any time, one of which will be either me, my husband, or our son-in-law, so the carer will not be expected to help everyone simultaneously! When not needed to provide care, the carer will be asked to help with cooking meals, freezing leftovers, doing dishes and laundry.

We are looking for a versatile and empathetic person who is calm, kind, patient, detail-oriented and has high standards of food safety and cleanliness. Experience with toddlers or disability care would be particularly valued. Formal qualifications are valued but not required. We will want to carry out a police check. We are in a rural suburb and you will need your own transport to get to us.

We currently envisage hiring people for a five-hour daily shift any time between the hours of 8am to 6.30pm and are looking for up to five carers that will enable a shift each day of the week. (We are also running a separate advertisement for carers to work a late evening/night shift.)

The pay range quoted is for applicants with experience.
