Queensland
Work Type:
Full-Time and ongoing opportunity
Salary Package:
Attractive remuneration package, tailored to your experience + other performance based incentives
About the Client
Our client is an established and growing contractor delivering high-quality commercial and government projects across the Brisbane region. Aligned with their active trade crews, they operate on a structured 7:00am – 3:30pm Monday to Friday schedule, offering their office staff the benefit of an early finish to the workday.
As they continue to secure larger commercial and government contracts, they are expanding their internal team and seeking a skilled, dual-capability Estimator to drive their tendering process from end to end.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Director, you will manage the full estimating cycle—from reviewing initial tender documents and drawings through to submitting highly competitive, commercially sound submissions.
This role is genuinely split 50% Electrical and 50% HVAC/Mechanical. Our client is not looking for an electrical estimator who has simply "dabbled" in mechanical; we require a professional who can confidently, accurately, and independently price both disciplines.
What’s on Offer
- Competitive Salary package, tailored to your level of experience. Other performance based incentives for the right fit to the team.
- Office-Based with Variety: Based in a Brisbane office with occasional local site visits to keep your hand in the field (pool vehicle access provided for site travel).
- Work-Life Balance: Stable, structured hours (7:00am – 3:30pm) allowing you to beat the afternoon peak-hour traffic.
- Growth & Stability: A strong pipeline of commercial and government work with a company that values technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Full-Cycle Estimating:
Conduct detailed take-offs and cost estimates for both commercial electrical and HVAC/air-conditioning works.
- Tender Management: Review specifications, drawings, and scopes; prepare and submit professional quotations for builders, project managers, and government clients.
- Procurement & Liaison: Source and assess supplier and subcontractor pricing, applying correct labour rates, margins, and on-costs.
- Risk & Value Engineering: Identify potential project risks, define exclusions, and discover value-engineering opportunities to keep bids competitive.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Attend pre-tender meetings and occasional site inspections to ensure absolute accuracy in pricing.
- System Maintenance: Maintain accurate estimating records and pricing libraries (transitioning to Ascora and Groundplan).
What We Are Looking For
- Dual-Trade Estimating Experience: Demonstrated, hands‑on estimating experience across both commercial electrical and HVAC/mechanical projects.
- Technical Literacy: Ability to accurately read and interpret complex electrical and mechanical construction drawings and specifications.
- Commercial Acumen: Strong numeracy skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a sharp eye for profitable risk management.
- Systems Savvy: Competence with contemporary estimating software and standard office suites (MS Office / Google Workspace).
- Communication: Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills suitable for managing relationships with tier-2 builders, engineers, and government departments.
- Requirements: Current Australian work rights and a valid open driver’s licence.
- Strong knowledge of AS/NZS 3000, relevant mechanical/AC standards, and Queensland building regulations.
- Prior experience tendering for QBuild, the Department of Education, commercial builders, or body corporates.
