About the Role

Smith & Co Recruitment is proud to partner with a market-leading Australian manufacturer of specialised food processing equipment supplied throughout Australia and international markets.

Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead their engineering department. Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will oversee a team of five engineers while ensuring the successful delivery of multiple client projects.

This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to someone who enjoys mentoring engineers, improving engineering processes, and ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead, mentor and develop a team of 5 Mechanical Engineers.
- Project manage multiple engineering projects from initial client handover through design, manufacturing, installation and final delivery.
- Coordinate with internal departments including Sales, Production, Procurement, Manufacturing and Service to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to specification.
- Act as the key engineering contact throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring clear communication between clients and internal stakeholders.
- Allocate engineering resources and manage team workloads across multiple concurrent projects.
- Review and approve engineering designs, drawings and technical documentation.
- Identify and resolve technical or project-related issues to keep projects progressing efficiently.




- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes, systems and project delivery.
- Ensure engineering standards, quality requirements and safety obligations are consistently met.
- Support business development and sales teams by providing technical input during project scoping, quotations and client meetings when required.

What You'll Bring

- Degree qualified Mechanical Engineer (or similar engineering discipline). - Must have
- Proven experience leading engineering teams within a manufacturing or industrial workplace.
- Strong background managing engineered-to-order or custom manufacturing projects.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills with the ability to mentor and develop engineers.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- High level communication skills with the ability to work closely with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Experience using 3D CAD software and engineering design processes.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to balance technical excellence with project outcomes.
