Ryans Turf is a family run farm on the south coast of NSW. We’ve been running for 30 years growing and selling turf across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven. We are looking for a capable, hands-on Farm Manager to lead day-to-day turf farm operations and help keep the farm running safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

This role suits someone who is practical, organised, confident managing people, and comfortable working outdoors in a farming or turf production environment. The Farm Manager will manage roughly 10 staff, coordinate daily work, and work closely with the owner and office manager to plan and make business decisions.

We are looking for someone with either a farming, greenkeeping or mechanical background. Being a farm manager means you play a role with many hats, so depending on what skills you have will depend on where you fit into the business.

Key responsibilities

- Plan and coordinate daily farm operations, including staff allocation, machinery use, paddock work, irrigation, maintenance, harvesting support, and general farm presentation.
- Manage and supervise roughly 10 staff, including daily task allocation, communication, performance expectations, training support, and protected work practices.
- Work with the owner on future business planning, operational improvements, staffing needs, machinery planning, and longer-term farm priorities.
- Monitor turf quality, paddock condition, irrigation requirements, weeds, pests, disease pressure, and general crop health.
- Coordinate machinery, tools, vehicles, and equipment so work can be completed safely and efficiently.
- Support harvest planning and make sure farm priorities, order requirements, timing, and quality standards are communicated clearly to staff.




- Maintain a safe work environment and ensure staff follow workplace health and safety procedures, chemical handling requirements, and equipment operating standards.
- Keep clear records where required and communicate early about breakdowns, staffing concerns, crop issues, weather impacts, and upcoming requirements.

About you

- Experience in farm operations, turf production, greenkeeping, landscaping, agriculture, machinery operation, or a similar hands-on workplace.
- Mechanical experience, machinery maintenance experience, or strong practical fault-finding ability is highly regarded.
- Greenkeeping, turf management, sports turf, landscaping, farming, or horticulture experience is highly regarded.
- Previous experience supervising staff, leading a crew, or coordinating a team is essential.
- Strong planning and communication skills, with the ability to organise people, equipment, and priorities across a busy workday.
- Reliable, practical, safety-conscious, and willing to take ownership of the role.
- Comfortable working outdoors and adapting plans around weather, machinery availability, staffing, and customer or production requirements.
- MR or HR license preferred (or willing to obtain)
- Forklift license preferred (or willing to obtain)

- Full-time role
- Potential overtime may be available or required depending on season, weather, harvest requirements, and business needs.
- Hands-on outdoor role in a farm environment.
- Current driver licence essential.
