The Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to join Karakan's multicultural program and make a genuine difference in the lives of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and First Nations young people with psychosocial disabilities, their families and carers.

As our Multicultural Community Engagement Officer, you will work across South East Queensland to build trust-based relationships with young people, families, community leaders and organisations. You will create culturally safe spaces for community voices to be heard, support the co-design of accessible resources, and plan and deliver cultural events that celebrate diversity and strengthen community connection.

This role is fixed term to 30 June 2027 and classified at SCHADS Level 4 under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

Build genuine, trusting relationships with culturally diverse and First Nations young people, families, carers, community leaders and organisations

Plan and deliver culturally appropriate engagement activities, including group sessions, workshops and community forums

Develop and maintain stakeholder maps, engagement plans and engagement calendars to support coordinated program delivery

Plan, coordinate and deliver cultural community events that celebrate diversity, amplify lived experience and strengthen community connection

Coordinate and contribute to co-design processes, translating community insights into culturally appropriate and accessible resources

Represent Karakan at community forums, networks and events

Contribute to Karakan's broader multicultural work, including the Reconciliation Action Plan and Pacific Islander and Māori initiatives





Maintain accurate records and provide regular progress reports to the Multicultural Program Coordinator.

About You

You are a culturally connected and community-minded professional who brings both skill and heart to your work.

You will bring:

A relevant qualification in community services, mental health or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in community engagement or multicultural services

Demonstrated experience in culturally responsive engagement with CALD and/or First Nations communities

Proven ability to build and sustain relationships across diverse stakeholders, including community leaders and service providers

Experience contributing to co-design processes and developing culturally appropriate resources

Solid interpersonal, communication and organisational skills

A current Queensland Driver's Licence (P2 or Open) and access to a reliable motor vehicle

A current Blue Card and ability to complete relevant worker screening checks, including an NDIS Worker Screening Check

Highly desirable:

Lived experience as a person from a CALD or First Nations background

Experience supporting people with mental health needs in a not-for-profit environment
