Canberra

We're building something for young people facing mental health challenges that runs on real mentoring, real life skills and real futures, backed by a team that actually cares how it's delivered.

If you've ever had a mentor, coach, teacher or big sibling who changed the direction of your life, you already know why this work matters. Now imagine being that person for someone else.

We're after casual Mental Health Support Workers to help run our day programs and 1:1 mentoring across Canberra/ACT.

What you'll actually be doing

- Running and supporting day programs that build genuine life skills: budgeting, cooking, self-defence, public transport, job readiness, social confidence

- Mentoring young people psychosocially, one-on-one, building the kind of connection that makes people feel accepted

- Getting alongside participants in community and cultural activities that build identity, belonging and confidence

- Working as part of a small, values-driven team that talks to each other and has your back on shift

What you bring

- A relationship-first approach, where trust comes before the plan

- Experience or study in mental health, youth work, disability support, community services,

psychology, social work, education or similar. Lived experience and the right character matter just as much as a Cert III or IV

- A Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) check, NDIS Worker Screening Check, and a current driver's licence (or willingness to obtain)

- Reliability. Young people need to know you'll show up

- A sense of humour. If you can laugh with a teenager over a burnt batch of pancakes, you'll fit right in

What you get

- SCHADS Level 2.1 casual rate (approx. $45/hour, inclusive of casual loading, plus weekend and public holiday penalty rates on top)

- Adaptable casual hours that can work around study, family or other commitments

- Real supervision and support from a team that's reachable

- The chance to help build something from the ground up, grounded in culture, community and genuine care

- Work that means something at the end of the day

Who we are

Yibirmarra Foundation is a community-led charity organisation, focused on creating better futures for young Australian's. We believe mental health support should feel like being backed by someone who's in your corner, not processed through a system. If that's the kind of provider you want to work for (and the kind of person you want to be for someone else), we want to hear from you.

**Please note:** We're here to be fun and different, but our standards are high. No applications will be considered without submission of a cover letter that addresses specifically what you can bring to benefit our community. Your attention to detail is vital, and shortlisted applicants will be asked questions about this ad during an interview.
