Governance and Business Operations Officer

Our Federal Government client is currently looking for an experienced Governance and Business Operations Officer to join a high-performing portfolio management office, providing vital reporting, advice, assurance, and compliance services to ensure delivery alignment with strategic goals.

Australian Citizens with a Negative Vetting 2 and above will be regarded for this role

Your primary responsibilities include:

- Manage projects in line with established project management frameworks, maintaining portfolio-level oversight of risks, dependencies, milestones, dashboards, and compliance reporting.
- Continuously improve and maintain project management templates, artefacts, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and SharePoint resources to support consistent delivery.
- Provide high-level secretariat support and strategic oversight for departmental governance forums, ensuring quality adherence across board papers, dashboards, trackers, and quarterly compliance reporting.
- Deliver expert guidance and support on project governance structures, financial management,



and delivery best practices to project and programme managers.
- Oversee day-to-day PMO operations, including communications management, contractor onboarding, inductions, and first-day readiness.
- Lead business process uplift initiatives across the PMO, embedding productive, consistent practices and driving continuous improvement.

To be successful in this position, you will ideally bring:

- Technical Toolkit: Deep knowledge of APS project, programme, and ICT governance frameworks, portfolio and investment management, and proficiency with SharePoint and monitoring tools.
- Experience: Demonstrated background overseeing PMO operations, designing and uplifting standard operating procedures (SOPs), and implementing continuous improvement or process uplift practices within a government environment.
- Core Capabilities: The ability to operate independently with sound judgement under broad direction, exercise complex problem-solving, and manage key stakeholder relationships within executive-driven environments.
