General Manager – Specialised Wet Plant Hire

Due to our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and driven General Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our business and help drive the next stage of our growth.

This is an exciting opportunity for a proven leader with robust operational, commercial and people management experience within the civil construction, transport or plant hire industry.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day management and performance of the business. You will lead our management team, oversee operations, maintain strong client relationships and ensure the company continues to deliver exceptional service while achieving its financial and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and manage the daily operations of the business.
- Drive business growth, profitability and operational performance.
- Manage and mentor the operations allocator and business development managers.
- Oversee fleet utilisation, scheduling and maintenance planning.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Tier 1 contractors, government clients and key stakeholders.
- Monitor financial performance, budgets and operational KPIs.




- Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and reduce operating costs.
- Assist with tender submissions, pricing and strategic planning.
- Ensure compliance with WHS, NHVR, environmental and industry regulations.
- Foster a positive, accountable and high-performing workplace culture.
- Support recruitment, staff development and performance management.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:

- Minimum 10 years’ experience within civil construction, transport or plant hire.
- Previous experience in a senior leadership or General Manager role.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen with experience managing budgets and profitability.
- Exceptional leadership and people management skills.
- Proven ability to manage large operational teams and heavy vehicle fleets.
- Excellent client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong understanding of WHS, Chain of Responsibility and heavy vehicle compliance.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
- A proactive, hands‑on leadership style with a focus on continuous improvement.
