We are seeking an experienced Expat HR Manager to support our major underground mining project at Jwaneng, Botswana, providing strategic and operational HR leadership for a diverse workforce.

This is a unique opportunity for a hands-on HR professional who thrives in remote, high-performance mining environments and is passionate about building strong workplace cultures, driving workforce capability, and partnering with operational leaders to achieve project success.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the General Manager HR, you will be responsible for leading all people-related activities across the Jwaneng Underground Project. You will act as a trusted advisor to site leadership, ensuring HR strategies, systems, and practices support operational objectives while maintaining compliance with local legislation and company standards.

The role is offered on a FIFO basis from Australia, working a 6 weeks on, 4 weeks off roster, with accommodation, meals, flights, and a competitive expatriate remuneration package provided.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide strategic and operational HR leadership across the project.
- Partner with site management to drive workforce planning and organisational effectiveness.
- Lead all employee and industrial relations matters — including union engagement,

collective bargaining, grievance and disciplinary processes, and dispute resolution — in accordance with Botswana labour legislation and company policies.
- Represent the Redpath in union consultations, wage negotiations, and dispute proceedings, including matters before the Commissioner of Labour and the Industrial Court where required.
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with recognised unions and employee representatives, and proactively manage industrial action risk and contingency planning.
- Coach and support leaders on performance management, employee development, and talent management.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and mobilisation of national and expatriate employees.
- Lead and develop the site HR team, building the capability of national HR professionals.
- Oversee compensation, benefits, and expatriate workforce administration.
- Lead workforce engagement and employee wellbeing programs.
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation, immigration requirements, and company governance standards.
- Support succession planning and capability development across the project workforce.
- Analyse HR metrics and workforce trends to inform business decision-making.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and safety-focused workplace culture.

About You

- Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business, or a related discipline a must.
- Significant HR management experience within mining, construction, resources, or heavy industry environments.
- Previous experience working on remote, international, or expatriate assignments.
- Strong knowledge of employee relations, workforce planning, and HR best practice.
- Demonstrated experience managing unionised workforces, including collective bargaining, dispute resolution, and union relationship management.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and partner with senior operational leaders.
- Experience managing culturally diverse workforces.
- Solid understanding of mobilisation, camp-based workforce management, and project environments.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate autonomously in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Highly Regarded

- Experience working in Africa or other international mining jurisdictions.
- Exposure to underground mining projects.
- Previous FIFO or expatriate assignment experience.

What We Offer

- Competitive expatriate salary package.
- FIFO from Australia.
- 6 weeks on, 4 weeks off roster.
- Accommodation, meals, and site travel provided.
- Opportunity to work on one of the world's premier underground mining projects.
- Global career development opportunities with a leading underground mining contractor.
- A collaborative, safety-focused and values-driven culture.
