The Organisation:

The Family Co. (TFC) aims to support and strengthen the capacity of families within our community by providing programs and services designed to contribute to the promotion and maintenance of safety and wellbeing of all family members.

The Program:

The Defence Family Support Funding program aims to empower current serving military families to navigate the challenges and opportunities of military life.

The Position:

The Defence Family Support Worker delivers high-quality, child, youth and family-centred support in accordance with The Family Co.’s (TFC) model of care, funding requirements, and organisational strategic priorities.

This role is responsible for enhancing the wellbeing, resilience, and social connectedness of Australian Defence Force families through the design and delivery of responsive, strengths-based support. This includes facilitating tailored engagement opportunities such as group programs, parenting support, outreach initiatives, and individualised interventions that meet the diverse and evolving needs of Defence families.

The Defence Family Support Worker maintains accurate and timely client records, ensuring compliance with TFC policies, procedures, and reporting requirements. The role also contributes to continuous quality improvement by supporting the development, evaluation, and enhancement of evidence-informed programs and service delivery approaches.

Responsibilities of the Role:

(Included but not limited to)

- Coordinate intake processes for Defence family support program referrals.
- Deliver evidenced based support to families and children who have been referred to TFC in line with Department of Defence contractual requirements and TFC’s policy and procedures.
- Implement and facilitate a term-based schedule of group programs in person and online.
- Provide individual support and coordinate referral pathways for families as required.




- Work collaboratively with relevant external services to ensure best outcomes for clients.
- Manage an online social media community platform providing information and resources to families.
- Attend community events as per funding contract requirements to support Defence families with social connections and celebrations.
- Accurately record and maintain client records on data recording systems as per TFC policy and procedures and program guidelines.
- Complete reporting requirements, including tracking of outcome measurements as per contract requirements.
- Build stakeholder and community relationships and work collaboratively with relevant external services to ensure best outcomes for clients.

Selection Criteria

- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or related relevant qualification.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of issues that may impact children, young people and families within the Defence community.
- Demonstrated experience providing casework support to children and families.
- Experience coordinating and facilitating group programs.
- Understanding of and ability to work from a Trauma informed practice model.
- Excellent organisation and administration skills and the ability to accurately maintain client records.
- Ability to utilise outcomes and evidence to develop and refine service delivery.
- Excellent communication skills, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in the use of IT system and electronic case management systems
- Ability to promote TFC services externally including to the community, government and private organisations
- A valid Working with Children’s Check and NSW Police Check
- Drivers license
