RME Geological Services Pty Ltd is seeking a Field Assistant to join our dynamic exploration and geoscience team. This is a casual position based in Orange, NSW, offering the opportunity to work on diverse geological and exploration projects in a fast-paced environment. As a Field Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our geoscientists and exploration teams in the field, contributing directly to the success of our mining exploration and resource assessment operations. This role provides valuable hands-on experience in the mining and exploration sector and offers flexibility in working arrangements to suit your availability.
Key responsibilities
- Assisting geoscientists and exploration teams with field data collection, sampling, and geological observations
- Supporting drilling programs, core logging, and sample preparation activities
- Maintaining and transporting geological equipment and materials to and from field sites
- Recording field data accurately and ensuring proper documentation of geological findings
- Assisting with site setup and breakdown of exploration camps and field operations
- Supporting health, safety, and environmental compliance procedures on site
- Helping to identify and collect rock and mineral samples for analysis and testing
- Assisting with various exploration activities including surface geochemical sampling
What we're looking for
- A current or recent qualification in geology, geoscience, earth sciences, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience in the mining and exploration sector
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording and documentation
- Physical fitness and capability to work in outdoor and potentially challenging field conditions
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team under the supervision of experienced geoscientists
- Sound understanding of health and safety protocols, with a willingness to comply with all site requirements
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Basic computer literacy and familiarity with field data collection software is desirable
- A valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to field sites as required
- Flexibility and adaptability to varying work schedules typical of exploration fieldwork
