Role Summary

The Pattern Maker is responsible for creating accurate first patterns and maintaining high technical

standards across seasonal collections. Working closely with Design, Product Development,

Technical, and the Workroom teams, this role translates creative concepts into production-ready

patterns that achieve the desired fit, silhouette, quality, and commercial requirements.

The Pattern Maker plays a critical role in supporting effective sample development, ensuring

consistency across collections, and contributing to the continuous improvement of fit and

construction standards.

Key Responsibilities

Pattern Development

- Develop first patterns for seasonal collections across RTW categories, including runway, commercial, and special projects as required.
- Interpret design sketches, reference garments, and technical briefs into accurate production patterns.
- Produce manual and/or digital patterns to company standards.
- Review garment construction and recommend pattern solutions that support design intent while improving manufacturability.
- Ensure all patterns are clearly documented, graded where required, and maintained in an organised filing system.

Fit, Technical & Sampling

- Attend fit sessions and collaborate with the Design, Product Development and Technical teams to implement fit changes.
- Amend patterns promptly following fittings to support development timelines.
- Work closely with machinists and sample makers throughout the prototype and SMS development process.
- Ensure pattern accuracy, balance, proportion and garment functionality across all styles.
- Support the resolution of technical construction challenges throughout development.

Construction & Quality

- Maintain exceptional standards of pattern accuracy and garment construction.




- Ensure patterns reflect Christopher Esber's quality, fit and construction expectations.
- Recommend improvements to construction methods that enhance quality, efficiency or consistency.
- Work collaboratively with Product Development and Production to ensure patterns are commercially viable for manufacturing.

Cross Functional Collaboration

- Work closely with Design to preserve creative intent while delivering technically achievable garments.
- Partner with Product Development to support development milestones and sample delivery.
- Collaborate with the Workroom Manager & Senior Patternmaker on workload planning, priorities and technical standards.
- Support Production with technical clarification where required during handover and bulk production.

Calendar & Workflow

- Deliver patterns within seasonal development calendars and agreed deadlines.
- Prioritise workload to support sampling schedules and collection milestones.
- Maintain organised records of pattern revisions and approved versions.
- Proactively communicate any risks to timing, fit or technical execution.

Skills & Experience

- 6+ years' experience as a Pattern Maker within premium or luxury ready-to-wear.
- Extensive experience developing patterns across tailoring, soft dressing and occasionwear.
- Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, grading and pattern engineering.
- High level of proficiency in manual and/or digital pattern making systems.
- Excellent knowledge of luxury fabrics and garment performance.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical and fit challenges while maintaining design intent.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and seasonal deadlines.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
