Ornamental Cornice is seeking an experienced Fibrous Plasterer to join our team based in Logan Village, QLD.
This is a highly skilled, hands-on role involving all aspects of fibrous plaster manufacturing, mould making, restoration and installation across residential, commercial and heritage projects. The successful applicant will be expected to independently undertake the full scope of fibrous plastering duties while producing high-quality architectural plasterwork and maintaining exceptional workmanship and attention to detail.
This is not a production-only or installation-only role. We are seeking an experienced all-round Fibrous Plasterer who is capable of independently undertaking all aspects of the trade, from mould making and manufacturing through to installation and restoration.
Key Responsibilities
- Cast a wide range of fibrous plaster products to a high quality, saleable finish, including cornices, ceiling centres, ceiling panels, columns, archways, wall panels and other architectural mouldings, from existing fibreglass, plaster and silicone production moulds, including the correct prep work to the moulds.
- Manufacture, repair, modify and maintain production moulds in fibreglass, plaster and silicone.
- Manufacture and reproduce patterned cornices, mouldings and decorative elements from customer-supplied samples or existing plasterwork.
- Produce metal templates to accurately replicate existing straight-line profiles and manufacture custom straight-run moulds using running mould techniques.
- Sculpt new decorative patterns from an plan or modify an existing pattern.
- Cast flexible resin products where required or produce flexible resin moulds where required (not a necessity – we can teach on the job).
- Install fibrous plaster products to a high standard, including measuring, setting out, cutting, fitting, fixing, jointing and finishing.
- Read and interpret architectural plans, drawings and specifications.
- Maintain exceptional workmanship, accuracy and attention to detail across all manufacturing and installation work.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Follow all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a Fibrous Plasterer, with the demonstrated ability to independently undertake all aspects of fibrous plaster manufacturing, mould making and installation.
- Demonstrated experience casting a wide range of fibrous plaster products to a high-quality, saleable finish.
- Experience preparing, manufacturing, repairing, modifying and maintaining production moulds using fibreglass, plaster and silicone.
- Experience reproducing existing decorative mouldings, cornices and architectural plaster profiles from customer-supplied samples or existing plasterwork.
- Experience producing metal templates and manufacturing straight-run moulds using running mould techniques.
- Ability to sculpt current decorative patterns from plans, drawings or existing profiles, or accurately modify existing patterns.
- Proven experience installing fibrous plaster products,
including measuring, setting out, cutting, fitting, fixing, jointing and finishing.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret architectural plans, drawings and specifications.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to custom manufacturing, restoration and installation projects.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Positive attitude, reliability and a strong work ethic.
- Strong understanding of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) practices.
- Current driver's licence and own reliable vehicle.
Additional Information:
Some installation projects require travel and overnight stays away from home. The successful applicant must be willing and able to travel when required. All accommodation arranged for work-related travel will be provided by the company.
The role involves a combination of factory-based manufacturing and on-site installation work.
Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required to meet project deadlines.
Manual handling and lifting of fibrous plaster products is a regular part of the role, and applicants must be physically capable of performing these duties safely.
The successful applicant will be provided with any job-specific training required for Ornamental Cornice's manufacturing processes and products, including flexible resin mould and product production where required.
Salary: $41.00-$50.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience (approximately $81,016-$98,800 per annum based on a 38-hour working week), plus superannuation.
