Take the next step in your legal career with a fast-growing Australian telco!

The MaxoTel Group of brands is home to a portfolio of leading Australian telecommunications brands, including Vonex, Maxo Telecommunications, The Telco Shop, TelTel and Zintel. Together, we deliver cloud voice, data connectivity, mobile and business communications solutions to thousands of SMEs and consumers across Australia and New Zealand.

As our business continues to grow, we're looking for a commercially minded lawyer to help drive and support the next phase of our growth. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of technology, regulation, and commercial strategy. Partnering with leaders across the business to solve complex challenges, influence key decisions and help shape the future of a rapidly evolving telecommunications group. If you are looking for a role where you can make a genuine impact, work closely with senior stakeholders and build your career in a high-growth environment, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our Process & Compliance team on a part-time basis (3 days a week).

Working closely with leaders and cross-functional teams across the business, you will provide practical, commercially focused legal advice that enables strategic growth while effectively managing legal and regulatory risk. You will help strengthen our legal frameworks, support commercial transactions, and ensure we continue to meet our obligations in the regulatory environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide timely, practical legal advice across a broad range of telecommunications, technology,

and wholesale network matters.
- Draft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including customer, supplier, carrier, technology and government contracts.
- Advise on regulatory obligations, including telecommunications, competition, privacy, consumer protection and related legislative frameworks.
- Monitor, interpret and communicate changes to legislation and regulatory requirements, ensuring the business remains compliant across relevant jurisdictions.
- Identify, assess and mitigate legal risks associated with network operations, emerging technologies, products and service offerings.
- Support dispute resolution, regulatory engagement, investigations and other legal matters as they arise.
- Partner with stakeholders across the business to deliver clear, pragmatic and commercially sound legal advice that enables innovation and informed decision-making.
- Contribute to the continued development of the Process & Compliance function by helping build scalable legal processes, improving governance and fostering a collaborative, solutions-focused culture.

Who You Are

You are a commercially minded legal professional who enjoys partnering with business to actively solve problems rather than simply identify them.

You take ownership of your work, communicate with confidence, and thrive in environments where priorities evolve quickly, and a variety of challenges emerge.

You will bring:

- A proactive and collaborative approach to working with stakeholders at all levels.
- The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
- Confidence working both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- A pragmatic mindset with a focus on balancing legal compliance and commercial outcomes.
- A genuine drive to continually learn, improve and deliver exceptional results.

What Experience You Have

- Bachelor of Laws and valid practising certificate (or the ability to obtain a valid practising certificate) in Queensland.
- 7+ years PQE, ideally within or with exposure to the telecommunications, technology, infrastructure or another highly regulated industry.
- Strong knowledge of telecommunications law, privacy, competition law and related regulatory frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience in negotiating and drafting commercial, technology, supply and services agreements.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts in plain English.
- Strong analytical, negotiation and problem-solving capabilities.

Why Vonex?

- Work with a supportive, high-performing team.
- Opportunity to shape the legal/compliance roadmap.
- Competitive salary + advantages.
- Hybrid work options available with flexible work arrangements and practices
