Assistant Store Manager at Hornsby Camera House

We’re a growing family-run photography and creative business looking for an experienced Assistant Store Manager. You will have opportunity to act in the store manager role as required, providing valuable exposure to broader leadership responsibilitiesmore than just a retail manager. This role is for someone who genuinely loves cameras, photography, people, and sales. Someone who can lead a team confidently, create a great customer experience, and help customers find the right gear for their needs, whether they’re buying their first camera or upgrading qualified equipment.

You’ll be managing the day-to-day operations of the store while helping drive sales, team performance, and customer relationships. We’re looking for someone who understands small business, who can lead from the front, stay organised under pressure, and bring strong energy to both the team and the shop floor.

You’ll be the person our team looks to every day. You’ll set the tone, hold people accountable, have the hard conversations when needed, and celebrate wins loudly when they happen. You’ll make decisions, delegate confidently, and know when to escape. You’ll take full ownership of results - good and bad - and always be asking: what can we do better?

- Proven experience in retail management

- A genuine interest in cameras, photography, and technology
- Confidence in sales and customer service
- Someone who enjoys building relationships and helping customers
- Ability to manage staff, workflows, and store operations effectively
- A proactive mindset with attention to detail and accountability

What You’ll Be Doing:

- Leading and supporting the retail team with daily huddles
- Driving sales and delivering excellent customer service
- Helping customers choose cameras, lenses, accessories, and printing solutions
- Managing store presentation and daily operations
- Assisting with rostering, training, and team development
- Working closely with our print lab and online business operations
