The Internal Communications Specialist is a hands‑on communications role within the Employee Experience team at Queensland Country Bank. If you love crafting clear, purposeful content, keeping communication channels running smoothly, and helping others communicate better - this role made built for you.
You'll plan and deliver internal communications across Queensland Country Bank's channel architecture, ensuring employees stay informed, engaged, and connected to our direction, culture, and people. Alongside your content and channel work, you'll play a genuine enabling role by coaching stakeholders to build their communications capability, supporting teams to get more from Microsoft 365, and contributing to change communications that help staff navigate what's happening across the business.
This is a focused, delivery‑oriented role suited to an organised, creative communicator who thrives on variety, values doing things well, and genuinely cares about the employee experience.
This is a full‑time position with a standard 38‑hour work week. You have the flexibility to choose between our Townsville Head Office or Brisbane Administration Office as your work location with the chance to work from remotely up to 3 days per week.
Content & Engagement
- Plan and manage communication initiatives, using structured, forward‑looking content and change impact calendar, staying ahead of organisational priorities and maintaining a consistent communications rhythm across channels.
- Write and edit engaging content for a range of formats and audiences such as intranet articles, leadership updates, all‑staff emails, event communications, and multimedia pieces that bring Queensland Country's stories, culture, and strategy to life.
- Work closely with stakeholders across the business to develop their communications by providing practical advice, drafting support, and coaching that ensures messaging is clear, consistent, and lands well with the intended audience.
- Build communications capability across the organisation by supporting content owners, people leaders, and communication champions through training, one‑on‑one guidance, and practical resources that lift the quality and consistency of communications at every level.
- Help staff and teams get more from Microsoft 365 including Teams, Viva Engage, and SharePoint through virtual coaching sessions, how‑to resources, and ongoing digital literacy support that builds confidence and collaboration.
- Turn communication and change strategies into creative content using a variety of mediums.
- Manage Queensland Country’s internal social platform (Viva Engage) to encourage interaction, knowledge sharing, and connection across our branch and office network.
- Support the Head of Employee Engagement with change communications, developing targeted messaging, stakeholder updates, and adoption content that helps employees understand, prepare for, and embrace change.
- Monitor, analyse, and report on communication usings analytics, engagement data and staff feedback to deliver insights and recommendations to continuously improve channels and approaches
- Enhance staff skills in communication, collaboration, digital literacy, and content creation through targeted training, guidance, and ongoing support.
Intranet Administration
- Own and managethe Queensland Countryintranet includingpublishing content, managing the intranet inbox, administering access, resolving technical and user issues, maintaining site structure, archiving outdated material, and refreshing evergreen content on a regular cycle.
- Monitor engagement, gather feedback to identify improvement opportunities, rolling out changes that enhance the intranet experience for staff.
- Support content owners across the business to keep their pages accurate, current and visually consistent – providing guidance, templates and hands on assistance as needed.
- Use insights from analytics, surveys, and employee feedback to fine‑tune communication strategies.
About You
- Proven experience in internal communications or a closely related role,
with exceptional written communication skills - you write clearly, concisely, and compellingly for diverse audiences and channels.
- Organised and proactive, with the ability to manage a forward‑looking content calendar, balance competing priorities, and deliver high‑quality work to deadline.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine interest in helping others communicate better - whether coaching a people leader on their messaging, supporting a content owner, or facilitating a practical Microsoft 365 session.
- Some familiarity with change management communications - you understand how to frame change in a way that helps people understand, prepare, and move forward with confidence.
- An appreciation for employee experience - you understand that how employees feel informed, included, and connected matters, and you bring that thinking to the communications work you do.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 tools - including SharePoint, Teams, and Viva Engage, and comfortable supporting and educating others in their everyday use.
- Experienced in intranet management, including content publishing, access administration, and day‑to‑day platform support.
- Experience using online design tools such as Canva and video creation tools such as Clipchamp, with confidence in creating visual and multimedia content that complements and elevates written communications.
